The organist and singer for the innovative Tulsa group Los Reactors in 1980 - 1983, Joe Christ continued to make and record music through 1996. His next band was G Spot, formed in Tulsa, which moved to Dallas and later evolved into Joe Christ & The Healing Faith. In late 1989, he put together an outfit called Bigger Than God, and kept recording under that name in New York, long after the Dallas band had dissolved.
By the early 1990s, Christ was no longer playing live music, instead just going into the studio to record music that ended up in short movies he'd begun making. The output from this era usually had guest musicians, with Christ playing most of the instruments. By 1995, Christ had begun recording totally by himself, playing all of the instruments in every song.
Recent renewed interest in Los Reactors led to a release of that band's material on a CD (Dead In The Suburbs) from Ripoff Records, which was followed less than a year later by a release of music recorded later by Christ (Essential Christ) from Long Live Crime Records in 2005.
