Praise for Joe Francis and The Ammunition / The Lost William Testament:
'Joe Francis is one of Cornwall's truly astounding songwriters... Do yourself a favor and go out and buy what is possibly the best album to come out of Cornwall...”
Go2 Magazine
Joe Francis doesn’t just play his songs, he drags them up on stage and beats a confession out of them. They combine craftsmanship with the true spirit of Rock and Roll, without compromising either of the two.’
Callum Winters, 1001 Magazine
“Innovative and decidedly more meaty than the usual indie and surf inspired sounds of the moment…….. It’s only a matter of time before Joe and The Ammunition go catatonic and every man and dog will be dropping their name both sides of the Atlantic”
Kate Ardron, Pit Pilot
'...There's no doubt that "Bullet Proof" has the magnificence to be a contender for Christmas number one, and that "The Lost William Testament" is on its way to standing up with the greats such as Springsteen and, at times, The Police...'
Laura Snape, Writer for NME
‘... I heard one woman, who had never seen the band before, say that she was literally 'stunned' by quality of what she was witnessing. When you notice this happening in the middle of the FIRST song, it is easy to see that there is something special going on...Joe plays a mix of rocked up love songs, smooth rhythm and blues, and good old-fashioned moody guitar and folk music. Centred mainly around his life lessons growing up as products of the laid back Cornish social scene, the songs display an optimism and an inspirational lyrical content that belie Joes age, with a nod to allegory and euphemism so commonly lacking in much modern popular music and songwriting.’’
Adam Puckey, The West Briton
‘The best songwriter and live act in Cornwall...’
Lee Trewhela, The West Briton
.‘Joe Francis and The Ammunition; fully loaded and fighting fire with fire.’
'The Lost William Testament''Here is a body of work, panoramic in its sweep, delivered by a young musician who seems incapable of producing anything less than the most passionate and original sounds. When combined with lyrics that are light years removed from the pop sensibilities to which most chart based, faddish acts desperatley cling, you have one astounding album...
Callum Winters, 1001 Magazine.
Public records official release statement:
Recorded at Abbey Road in The Beatles' Studio 2, Joe Francis and The Ammunitions debut album soars between searing guitar driven rock’n roll to beautiful, sensitive and thought provoking songs ornamented by Brass Bands and String Quartets:
Joe's songs tell stories of harbor town feuds and fights, Atlantic summer storms, beach fires at night, postcards home from soldiers at war, and the endless summer of youth. The album is rich in local imagery, his lyrics have absorbed the atmosphere, scenery and way of life of this unique place by osmosis as he takes you effortlessly through cellar bars, dimly lit small town streets, cathedral caves, discos and from one century or decade to another. Legendary studio engineer Phill Brown, who worked on the album, has recorded Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Robert Plant, Little Feat, John Martyn and many others. He has described "The Lost William Testament" as a 'classic sounding album'.
Recorded in 6 hours, from midnight to sunrise, at the birth place of rock and roll, The legendary Sun Studios in Memphis, Tennessee, Joe Francis is proud to present ‘The Sun Sessions’...
A collection of haunting melodies and imperfect performances, complete tracks and demos, poetry and scribblings, All composed by Joe during his travels in the USA and recorded at the birth place of rock and roll - the legendary Sun Studios. Featuring an acoustic guitar, forgotten lines and mumbled words, crackles and pops, hisses and buzzes, rattles and hums and drunken ramblings...
...And an outstanding account of a young man on the adventure of a life time and of a young artist breathing life into a brand new album. Check out Joe Francis myspace profile www.myspace.com/joethefox for a sneak preview of 'The Sun Sessions'...
Keep your eyes on the horizon x .
Joe Francis is from St. Agnes, a magical cliff top village on the North Coast of Cornwall, set within a rugged and beautiful landscape that has undoubtedly inspired and forged itself into his unique brand of rock and roll. Raised on a strict diet of Bill Hicks and Billy Connolly, sword and sorcery movies, myths, legends, rock 'n roll and folk music, and having recorded albums at both Abbey Road, London and Sun Studios, Memphis, Joe has became one of the south-west’ most popular songwriters.
