The Joe Harvard Band is more like an extended family. See the Members Blog!!
Influences
Basically anyone who can write a great song and got onto my radar screen in the past three decades has been an influence - garbage in, garbage out. I'm not shy about talking about them, though ... see the blog!
Sounds Like
The day before Graham Parsons died he played miniature golf with Jonathan Richman, and they discussed GP possibly playing on the first Modern Lovers album. That is how I'd love my band, and my records to sound: the Flying Modern Burrito Lovers. But from Egypt.
This page is for the Joe Harvard Band, of Asbury Park, NJ, as well as JH solo work. Originally from Jeffries Point, East Boston, singer and guitarist JH has played on records by Dinosaur, Jr., the Pernice Brothers, Throwing Muses, and on dozens of other major and indie label releases and recordings; as co-founder and former owner of Fort Apache Recording, he was an indie pioneer and spiritual midwife to hundreds more. More of that stuff in the blogs. Having worn many hats in the music world, the JH Band is a return to first loves: songwriting, recording and doing live shows with a kickass band of genius pirates, which he is happy as hell to have discovered in Asbury Park. See the Bio Blog for more info on members of the extended JH Band family as well as band history.

We got as high as Number 19 on Neil Young's Living With War website with our homemade video for "[How I Became A] Patriotic Pseudo Pacifist", which uses contemporary images to tell a true story about how Joe's late brother, Marine Lance Cpl Bobby Trainor, ended up in Vietnam, and the consequences."
We are very excited about playing at such an awesome jazz club. We have some great sets lined up for you, so don't miss it. Friday and Saturday November 20th and 21st, 5:00-8:30p at Andy's Jazz Club in Chicago

Wow, didn't realize Koufax is a Jew- then again what do I know about Jews? The only full-blooded one I ever knew was my dad. How about Whitey Ford or Don Drysdale? Oh you want Italians. OK Phil Rizzuto. But he wasn't a pitcher. Lou Reed is a Jew but he doesn't play baseball (but he DID want to play football with the coach).
But I'm rambling, maybe I should stick to discussing music!
Be sure to make it out this Thursday night starting at 7pm, rain or shine, to Mister C's Bistro in Allenhurst, NJ to hear more unique songs that most performers never play for their audience. There will be many more brilliant piano and vocal tunes by Stormin' Norman, who will be joined Linc Davis as a special guest on guitar and vocals during the evening. I'm sure some of the classic songs by the Everly Brothers will also be included which are rarely heard on any stage in the country! We won't forget Ray Charles, Scott Joplin, Elton John, Jimmy Buffett, Fats Domino, or any of the unique piano styles of your favorite new age and "Liberace like" piano selections.
To have a great dinner and call 732-531-3665 for reservations or just sit at one of the beautiful scenic bars overlooking the ocean and enjoy a great drink
Come to see Stormin' Norman Seldin's solo performance.

Joe thanks for the stage time last night. I had a blast and loved that bass player I played with - that jazz stuff he was laying down on the first jam had this old goat on his toes.. The last tune was epic. Never played with 20 percussionists at once before. Only in Asbury Park :)
Did you make it to Mass Ave last night? I did a drive-by but couldn't go in due to too much unbridled humanity on the streets. God, it was icky! I've been crooning along to Sweet Jane in anticipation of your next Boston date. I suck. the oooh's are really kicking my ass. Please don't play on a Saturday!
