If you can tell me about a place with a floor show that involves tap dancing and chorus girls, I'll love you forever. | | Music | I like lots of stuff, but you'll never see a song posted on this page, because I think that's massively annoying. My favorite artist of all time is Weird Al. I also really like My Chemical Romance, Cake and Better than Ezra. Also give me a good Bach concerto for harpsichord and flute. Of course, I like big band music. Right now I'm also really into The Editors and Death Cab for Cutie. | | Movies | The Fifth Element - Gaultier costumes! Anything with a big Busby Berkeley dance number. Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, Ann Miller, Eleanor Powell -- in other words, anything with tap dancing. "Just Imagine," a movie made in 1930 about what life would be like in 1980 (when we all would fly our personal planes and be known only by a number/letter code -- and you thought Lucas was being original in THX1138!). "Kontroll," a movie set in the Budapest Subway. "Mrs. Henderson Presents" because of the fantastic retro hairstyling. Anything that's a costume epic or has a retro-future theme. | | Television | TCM! No commercials. | | Books | Yes, I read a lot. I also like comics. Right now I'm reading the new "Dan Dare," "The Umbrella Academy" and "Fell." I love anything by Chris Ware, even though he is very broken. And magazines - "Threads" is the best if you sew. | | Heroes | Erte, Jean-Paul Gaultier. My mom and Amy, my costume-shop director in college, for teaching me to sew. |

About me:
I'm a big fan of retro pinup models and anything burlesque. Where did all the dinner theaters go?
I trained in theatrical costume design and I'm an amateur costumer for retro clothing, as well as scifi cons and renaissance-type things. I have some specialization in sewing vinyl. I collect vintage patterns from the 1920s to 1950s, and I make reproduction garments from them for myself. (I don't sell costumes I make; I find sewing to be too time intensive to do for money. I have made costumes for a select few friends and relations, however.) I'm into vintage hairstyling, wigs and hats - these things really finish off costumes, in my opinion. I recently started my own foray into millinery, so check out the resulting mini top hats in the slideshow below. I started making hats for my own amusement, but I've received enough interest that I'm making them for others, and I do take custom orders if you want something specific. Who I'd like to meet:
Costumers, milliners, people interested in sewing and theater; hairstylists, especially those who know how to do vintage hairstyles; pinup models and photographers. Retro guys and gals, rockabillies and swing dancers. Scifi nuts and comic book nerds. Pretty much anybody on the fringe. If you're a burlesque performer who plans on having shows in NC, I really want to know about your plans so I can support your work!
This page is dedicated specifically to my interests in things related to burlesque, pinups, costuming, and other fun stuff, so I will not respond to messages or friend requests from people asking me for dates. Or random bands. Unless you're a rockabilly band. Then totally hit me up. :)
