Justine K (lead vocals/bass guitar)
Justin King (guitars/vocals)
Victor A (drums/vocals)
Influences
My biggest influence quite honestly is Justin's incredible songwriting talent and his guitar playing and Jeff Buckley, George Michael, U2, Travis, Sinatra and you know, to be quite frank, I'm DEFINITELY so obviously influenced by the producers who worked with all of these guys for bringing their songs alive with the amazing perspectives, music and background vocal arrangements - and all they have brought to music!
Sounds Like
Basically our band sounds like a reflection of everything we've ever heard, seen, felt. Songs I love and wish everyone would hear that have moved me are: Dare You To Move by Switchfoot, Your Smile by Renee & Angela, You Get What You Give by the New Radicals, Get Here by Oleta Adams, A Different Corner, Praying for Time and Jesus To A Child by George Michael, Everybody Here Wants You by Jeff Buckley, Ordinary World and Save a Prayer by Duran Duran, Stomp by The Brothers Johnson, Proud by Heather Small, Papa Don't Preach and Take a bow by Madonna, People Are People and Get The Balance Right by Depeche Mode, Woman In Chains, Advice for The Young At Heart by Tears For Fears, How Soon Is Now by Morrissey, What Is Love? by Howard Jones, Until The Night by Billy Joel, I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know by Blood, Sweat & Tears (incredible vocals, horns, please listen to this song if you've never heard it!), One, With Or Without You by U2, All The Way by SINATRA, The Best Is Yet To Come (Sinatra produced by Quincy Jones version) Under My Skin and My Way by Sinatra, Just Once by James Ingram, Stuff Like That by Quincy Jones, This Masquerade, The Greatest Love of All, Love Ballad and Gonna Love You More by George Benson, Running Up That Hill by Kate Bush, Driftwood, Side, Re-Offender and Why Does It Always Rain On Me by Travis, Don't Speak by No Doubt, The Long and Winding Road by The Beatles. Time is Running Out by Muse, Prayer for the Dying by Seal, True Faith by New Order, Don't Ever Wonder by Maxwell, Ben by Michael Jackson (he was just a KID and sang this song so filled with feeling my GOD and yeah yeah to my bandmates I KNOW it's about a rat okay, in fact, kind of makes my point of view rather even stronger doesn't it!), Man In The Mirror by Michael Jackson, Under The Milky Way by The Church, Strength by The Alarm. The list goes on and on, however, not only is there only so much space in MYSPACE but also I have to go feed my cats now so I must stop listing songs!
Justine & Justin met by chance at a phone room job, and started writing music together. Justin taught Justine to play bass guitar and they started playing in a few local bands together backing other singers. They signed a publishing/administration agreement with Bug Music a few years later and it was the staff at Bug who encouraged Justine to sing their own songs, and that's how JOE K's KID was born. Along with playing live, the two writers compose for film and tv and recently wrote music for G4TV and film trailers for Miramax and Buena Vista.
JOE K was a great man. He was Justine's dad and an amazing person who had a hell of a voice himself. The band's sound combines Justine's love of Jeff Buckley, George Michael, Sinatra, U2 and Travis, with Justin's love also of Jeff Buckley, Hendrix, U2 and James Brown. Justin mainly composes the music and Justine mainly writes the lyrics. Both thank God that they answered an add for selling theater tickets over the phone!

Just loaded a new demo "Little Shinning Star" in advance of my new 2010 LP. Actually this might end up on the LP of a new band I might be joining if I end up moving back to the Seattle area. Take a listen, Peace, Michael
