Joel Allen; Guitar, Harmonica, Tambourine (at the same time), vocal, and piano
Influences
Muddy Waters, Hank Williams, Nat King Cole, Mississippi John Hurt, Jimmy Smith, Louis Armstrong, Sarah Vaughn, Lightning Hopkins, Big Walter Horton, Delbert McClinton, Django Reinhart and Richard Thompson to name a few.
Joel Allen is not all that easy to describe. He's well versed in blues, but also performs jazz standards as well as various styles of country, folk, rock and new age, always returning to his first love; the blues. He plays originals as well as covers. Joel Allen has played gigs in 29 states so far. In 2004 he played 306 gigs. Today he's only performing part time, after discovering how grueling touring full time can be.
He started out playing guitar as a teenager, then learned to play harmonica using a holder, thus he developed his "one man band" style.
A long time resident of Cleveland Ohio who has recently moved to Michigan, Joel's biggest gig was opening up for Johnny Winter at the Cleveland Agora in April '94.
To contact Joel Allen for more info or bookings, write to him at joelguitar@yahoo.com Joel will be happy to perform at your tavern, restaraunt or nightclub. He's also put together a show for nursing homes and retirement communities consisting of swing era tunes, country oldies and sing alongs. Check this site for updates.
