Joel Styzens is a drummer/percussionist, songwriter, guitarist and composer.
He is originally from Springfield, IL and is a graduate of Millikin University where he earned a degree in Music Business and Percussion, specializing in drum set, hand drums and mallet instruments. During his schooling, he performed with a large collection of percussion and jazz groups around the country, traveled to the Dominican Republic with one of Millikin's finest jazz groups and taught in the University's preparatory department.
Joel currently freelances in the Chicago music circuit where he's involved in several different projects, listed below. He also travels with a handful of other groups, teaches at the Old Town School of Folk Music and runs his own private percussion studio. He has collaborated with musicians in every style from Jazz to Rock and enjoys incorporating all of the elements into his teaching and performing.
Joel's music can be heard right here on this page (JoelStyzens.com) as well as at Relax-Your-Ears.com and Checkplease.tv. His music can also be heard on NBC 5-Chicago during the Check, Please! segment Tuesdays and Fridays during the 6 o’clock news.

Hey Joel! Great page! So much to listen to! I take Ronnell to a drum circle every other week now and she loves it. She has good rythm. She is also in the Appalachian children's choir. I think music is her thing! She likes to dance too.
