| Some stark images set to the music of Los Angeles based DJ Monkey. Meant to create some dialogue. This isn't anti-religious (please listen to the lyrics). The track is from the DJ Monkey CD "3rd World War". You can hear more of their music at www.squidmusic.com |

Modern pop/rock songwriter Joey Alkes has also played a lot of parts in the music business, from label executive to vocalist to band manager. Alkes is best known as the co-author of the power pop hit for the Plimsouls "Million Miles Away," which has appeared on a number of new wave compilations since. A native of New York, Alkes has worked all over the figurative map in music. In addition to his songwriting accomplishments and industry positions, he has worked as a music journalist, a magazine editor, and was a published poet before turning his writing toward music.
In the mid-'80s, Alkes sang in the Space Shot Orchestra, a group produced by Tin Machine's Hunt Sales. The band was the first to record "The Sphinx," a song co-authored by Alkes, Chris Fradkin, and Space Shot saxophonist Mitch Rafal, who would later play in Kid Frost's band. The song was also recorded a year later by British bluesman Alexis Korner. Alkes and Fradkin had teamed up a few years earlier with Plimsouls' guitarist Peter Case to pen the Plimsouls' hit "Million Miles Away," which appeared on the soundtrack to the 1982 teen cult flick Valley Girl. Joey Alkes has co-authored a number of other songs, including the Roadrunners' "Haunted Forever" and "Talk to Me," recorded by Phil Seymour. He also co-wrote tunes with Jim Basnight (of the Moberlys) and Devin Payne. Alkes and Payne came up with "Woman in You Girl," purportedly recorded by Roy Orbison right before his death, but remains unreleased.<1> As a manager, Alkes worked with They Eat Their Own and L.A. bands Haunted Garage and (a re-united) Mother's Finest, among others. After a hiatus from the music industry to pursue other interests, Alkes returned to music in the late '90s as a label licensing director. It wasn't long before he started his own entertainment company and founded Airborne Monkey Records. The label roster includes singer and songwriter from They Eat Their Own Laura B.
In 2003 Alkes, along with Mick McMains, and Jamal 'lil tiptoe' Cryer, formed the internationally respected rap-rock ensemble known as DJ Monkey, which released two extremely well received CDs, Another Evolution and 3rd World War.

outside my window snow flakes are falling,
once again it's that time of year ,
when love for all comes calling,
joy and cheer, as that bright star appear,
ding ,ding a ling
season greeting ,people meeting ,
shopping malls, crowed side walks,
bells a ringing ,ding ding a ling,
anticipating no-more waiting,
ding ,ding, a ling
buying gifts to mend the rifts,
in friendships,or start them anew,
so why don't i be the first ,
to wish merry Christmas to you ,
doesn't matter how you celebrate,
i respect all faiths,
that fellowship the loving ways
ding ding a ling
let love fill your heart,
let love inspire you to do your part,
this year give the gift ,
that comes from within,
let each light on the tree,
be a wish for all to be free,
free to love, free to be at peace,
free to reap the joy,
all over the
world,
allll overrr the world-----------,
ding ,ding,ding a ling,
let the biggest light,
shine from within your heart,
for that is the guiding star,
that leads all truths,
both near and far---peace wisemanspeeks@protected o7 aka wizthom

FUJAKO came out of the clash of Jonathan Uliel Saldanha and Nyko Esterle,
two producers obsessed with echo and bass. The first one, raised in Portugal
and part of the collectives Soopa and Mécanosphère, deals with sonic alchemy,
and is also known as HHY. The second one, raised in France, part of the Radon
collective and a rider of the sound waves, is also known as Ripit.
Both met to summon music of unlooped hip-hop, filled with spectres of haunting dub
and ecstatic scapes.
LANDFORM, their first record (out on Wordsound Digital) was born in a small stone
house studio in the burnt forests and mountains of Portugal, between paradise
and the gate of hell, made from soundscapes and beats recorded on mostly acoustic
instruments, created in an hostile -yet natural- environment. After the initial
production phase in the woods, LANDFORM was then haunted by the voices of several
guests such as Sensational, Seraphim, Native, Cheravif and Scalper, as well as by
the additional trash turntablism of DJ Urine.

Welcome to Theory of Tides. Check out our crosscurrents of alt rock, hip hop, techno and trance. Feedback, tell us your faves. Happy to have you here/hear in our Tidal Pool. THE TIDE IS IN…AND SO ARE THE REVIEWS ‘N’ INTERVIEWS:
-NEUFUTUR: “Mirana’s vocals further establish Theory of Tides as a truly special act, one that can use the widest possible swath of approaches to create the music heard here.” - SKOPE: “Cool, hip and modern beats are fully loaded on this new albumand I simply can’t get enough!” -EMUSIC: “…it’s like alternative trance music, with brief smatterings of hip hop/latin beats. Arty, yes - but does it work? Actually, yes.” - NEUFUTUR: “Theory of Tides, and this album specifically, should be seen as a blueprint for how to properly incorporate disparate genres of music into one cogent sound.” - SKOPE: “…Mirana simply sang her heart out while she meshed in perfectly with Rick’s production the all around connection at the end with everything coming together beautifully proves that the tide is high.” - NEUFUTUR: “Karaoke is Theory of Tide’s first bona fide hit, with cohesion abounds between the instrumental and vocal sides of the act. This results in a track that rides a groove while Mirana’s vocals clue listeners into a wonderfully detailed narrative.” - EMUSIC: “Track’s like ‘Elated’ have an Ibiza-in-summer feel and a deep house beat underneath Mirana’s distinctive vocals. ‘Hour of Pain’ is built on a swishing cymbol symbol beat and keyboard chords, and again it works – the vocal fades and quiet bass additions are spot on.” - SKOPE: “One aspect that I truly loved about his album was the use of sounds and beats. The sound production is spot on with Rick bringing his A-game. I heard everything form hip hop, pop/dance, technoish, trance like and tribal beats…”

some people hide behind such untruths,
while spitting all matter of ill will against you,
sometimes it better to pity the fool.
forgive them for they know not what they do,
always lurking in the shadows whispering evil thoughts a plenty,
i know to the weak they seem like they would not hurt a flea,
a great man once said it's not what goes in you that defiles you.
it's what you manifest within your imminence that luminance you,
a wise man
would say let it be for fools can't see,
beyond their pity jealousy bickering while bathing in misery ,
where ever you go you will meet these poor lost souls,
mingling inside false temples living off fools gold,
they
wish to lead and rule
the misguided that they often
do,
beware for fools the road to hell offers them many clues,
when you think about it only the tormented will follow,
such people as these, have nothing constructive to offer,
a gain of sand is like a mountain to them
too high to climb that is a nightmare to their dream,
it is best to let them be so easy to over look em.
for time is too precious to dwell among the lost,
the haters ,slanders ,gossipers,back stabbers,
war mongers, elbow rubbers all are lairs,
shit starters and stirrers, you will know them.
as they often come in the pretense off a friend,,

Monkee Platez next offering is the OUT NOW
'Fulltilt EP' from Glasgow outfit Mr Hajika.
4 slabs of groove driven tech house...
Fulltilt original is a chugging, bass heavy track with a subtle musicality that develops throughout.
Dr. Bergers remix is a stripped down deeper edit, with an infectious flow that maintains the essence of the original.
Similarly to Dr. Berger, Alex Fiction strips back the layers to uncover an electronic soul which builds into an intelligently emotive interpretation, if slightly twisted.
Completing the package is 'Nitemoves' which shares the big sound of Fulltilt, but with a more progressive, melodic vibe."
