"The Past To The Present"
Joey had his beginnings as a toddler banging relentlessly on his father's old Cowhide Ludwig marching snare drum. His parents thought lessons may be necessary....
After years of drum, guitar and piano lessons at an early age, in 3rd grade He joined the Berger Vandenberg (Dolton ILLINOIS), and later, Dirksen Junior High School Orchestra, and picked as Drums/Pecussion. Big Joe bought him a new drum set at the age of nine years old.
Playing in a 100 piece Orchestra in grade school, Junior High School, and marching band at Thornridge High School in Dolton, IL, Joey played just about every percussive instrument, from Tympanis to Vibraphones, to the drum set, his main passion since a very early age.
Joey had played with many bands as a drummer, then a guitarist/vocalist/frontman, and had airplay on WXRT 93.1 Chicago, Q 101 WKQX Chicago, WLUW 88.7 Loyola Radio Chicago, and various on-air interviews with previous bands, including a Half Hour Special Interview with WXRT 93.1 FM Chicago Radio Host Richard Milne.
Electronic music was always an interest since a young age, and sequenced music production began at 15 years of age. It was the pulse of House Music that drew him into the realm, and his drumming skills came in very handy...
Joey bought his first Synthesizer, fully-programmeable, with some U..S. Savings Bonds his Terminally Ill Mother gave to him when he was 15.
A Multi-Instrumentalist since a child, Joey Kay later attended Columbia College in Chicago, majoring in Fine Arts and receiving his BFA and a Certificate in Recording Engineering. Hes recorded hundreds (almost a thousand) of his own pieces, as well as recording others for a fee, or sometimes for free.
He interned at the famed "Battery Studios" (Jive Records) in Chicago while attending Columbia in 1995, meeting and assisting in sessions with Cajmere and DaJae, Underground Kings, Fast Eddie, Mr. Lee, a Michael Jackson Remix (Steve O), and meeting famed Engineer/Producer "Critter" and assisting him in a remix for the Rock band "Filter". Also working with "Steve O" (Head Engineer, Battery Studios 1995), and Peter Black (Jive Division, Battery Studios, Chicago ) And Will Rascati As Manager Of Battery Studios Division Of Jive.
Joeys past claim to fame is an Underground House International Extended Play release on House Jam Records in 1994 (Larry Thompson, Rick Lenoire, Gary Wallace) mistitled "Eclectiz" (actually meant to be "Eclectic" (search discogs.com for Joey Kay)), and featured on House Jam's "Sanctuary E.P" Release, also in 1994.
