To vote for John, you have to join the Labour party

Do you live in a constituency with a Labour MP? If so, why not contact them and ask them to nominate John for the leadership. Even if you suspect your MP will be supporting Gordon Brown or is not a natural supporter of John's, try to encourage them to nominate, in order to ensure there is an election, and not a coronation.

   John 4 Leader's Blurbs
About me:

The leadership election itself is over: John and his supporters fought an excellent campaign, but Brown was determined to prevent any contest or debate. I shall keep this site up out of solidarity and eventually convert it into a general Labour Left Myspace site.

Support John McDonnell's campaign for the leadership of the Labour Party.

"This is a grassroots campaign of party members, young people, pensioners, trade unionists and working people of all colours and creeds to change the political direction of the Labour Party.

The leadership is not the property or gift of any Westminster elite. Ordinary Labour Party members want a democratic debate on the policies needed to re-engage with our supporters, not a coronation of a chosen successor, or a personality contest.

In recent years, Labour Party conference has voted for direct investment in council housing, the renationalisation of rail, a halt to PFI in the NHS and the repeal of Thatcher's anti-trade union laws. These democratic policy decisions have been ignored. There is overwhelming public opposition to privatisation, the replacement of Trident and the war in Iraq. The leaderships of the three main political parties who support these unpopular policies have left millions out in the cold.

I am standing for policies radically different from any New Labour candidate. I want to stop billions of pounds being wasted lining the pockets of private contractors that should be invested in further improving our public services. I want to purse a foreign policy based on peace and justice, not one devised in Washington by George W Bush and the neo-cons.

We must remove the paralysing burden of student debt from our young and the disgrace of pensioner poverty. We must end the scandal of homelessness and overcrowding, address the growth of inequality, and introduce a real living wage.

These are mainstream Labour movement policies which are supported by the vast majority of the British public and can secure Labour a 4th term in government. We need to decentralise our policy-making, restore party democracy and give all member and affilates a real say in the future of the country.

The campaign is about rebuilding our party and its popularity. Above all, I want you to get involved. Please get in touch ,with us to find out more. Help us give our party back to its members."

Here are some of the policies that John is campaigning for:

The withdrawal of British troops from Iraq and Afghanistan.

The end to privatisation of public services.

A Real Living Minimum Wage of at least £7 an hour.

A green energy policy based on renewable power sources

An increase in the Basic State Pension from £84.25 to £114 a week.

Defence of comprehensive education and the abolition of student tuition fees.

The restoration of trade union rights and civil liberties

John has campaigned tirelessly on many issues, including trade union rights, human rights, the environment comprehensive education and against war and for peace.

John on education:

John on Trident

There are more of these policy videos here. Get them on your myspace sites, blogs and to your email lists! If you are a YouTube user, please consider subscribing to the John4Leader videos. Thanks.

Who I'd like to meet:
Anybody interested in the issues mentioned above; members of the Labour Party or its affiliates interested in the leadership election and engaging in a debate about the party's future; people who have left the Labour Party over issues such as the war or privatisation but are prepared to consider rejoining and helping with our campaign; people who have not joined the party but may consider doing so, and want to help with this historically important campaign.

What precisely is the point of working together with Mr.Brown and the 'New Labour Project' with a ten year legacy of overwhelmingly failures and only limited and isolated successes?

Anuerin Bevan saw us as an "island of coal surrounded by fish".

Today, the coal industry has been decimated by Thatcherism (and renewables are the way forward) and we are overfishing to a point where stocks are in peril.

Our "strong economy" (in reality, a massive trade deficit) is based on cheap credit, wildly overvalued housing, and hot air industries from climate-threatening unregulated aviation to 'industry' based on hype and hyperbole.

It is all a bubble. When it bursts, we will see the reality behind the paint and the lights of the 'New Labour' spectacle.

There is a mountain of reconstruction to do, just as in 1945.

Meacher makes a terrible suggestion below! I'm not fond of the idea of making Brown's life hell wouldn't it be better to co-operate rather than fued. The only way the left can return to the mainstream of British politics is by co-operation. Work together with Brown to help ensure a better britain, don't split the party.

DON'T MOURN, ORGANISE.

MAKE GORDON BROWN'S LIFE HELL AT THE HUSTINGS.

THERE ARE 1001 QUESTIONS HE DOES NOT WANT TO ANSWER.

HE MAY HAVE TRIED TO BLOCK A LEADERSHIP CONTEST. WE CAN STILL FORCE A GENERAL ELECTION.

It is such a shame that not enough MPs stood up for what was right. The Labour party claims to be a 'democratic socialist party' and by this result we see that it is not.

My regards to all those who ran the campaign, my hat off to you all.

THE CONTEST HAS NOT YET BEGUN.

WHICH IS MORE IMPORTANT - THE SIGNATURES OF 45 MPs IN A SHAM BALLOT OR THE LIE THAT SADDAM HUSSEIN WAS ABOUT TO ATTACK US IN 45 MINUTES WITH HIS NON-EXISTENT WMD?

Such a shame we didn't have the opportunity to vote ourselves. It would've brought such benefit to the party and a great deal more debate.

Good Luck with your future endeavours John, I hope we'll still be hearing a lot from you.

Best Wishes

John,
Democracy lost but you didn't. Many of us have been hugely encouraged at such a positive and motivating representaion of left ideals and policies and your integrity and gracious response to events has done you great credit. In the past weeks there has been a distinct rise in optimism that has spurred many people to re-engage in political discussion and activity, I hope this continues.
Thank you for your efforts.

All the best in the forthcoming leadership race from Ireland here is a poem by Bobby Sands MP which highlights the injustices then and sadly still apply today.

MODERN TIMES

It is said we live in modern times,
In the civilised year of ‘seventy nine,
But when I look around, all I see,
Is modern torture, pain, and hypocrisy.

In modern times little children die,
They starve to death, but who dares ask why?
And little girls without attire,
Run screaming, napalmed, through the night afire.

And while fat dictators sit upon their thrones,
Young children bury their parents’ bones,
And secret police in the dead of night,
Electrocute the naked woman out of sight.

In the gutter lies the black man, dead,
And where the oil flows blackest, the street runs red,
And there was He who was born and came to be,
But lived and died without liberty.

As the bureaucrats, speculators and presidents alike,
Pin on their dirty, stinking, happy smiles tonight,
The lonely prisoner will cry out from within his tomb,
And tomorrow’s wretch will leave its mother’s womb!
