John Cook singer-song writer, guitar and harmonica
Its just me for now, pursuing solo adventures

I started out a drummer, and played about every style music there was. Tony Riccobono (not sure how to spell after all these years) was an awesome teachers and made sure his students learned all styles of rythym. Mr R, if you read this, I hope you feel my appreciation for all I learned from you, not just about drums, but about music.
As a guitar player, the 'name' players that have influenced my playing would be the late Michael Hedges, Stephen Stills Mark Knophler, David Gillmore. But there are some players that I have known over the years that are the real teachers for me, Mike McKinney in Vermont, my brother Ronnie (of Capt Cook and the Coconuts), Frank Carlier ("Learn or Die") and Marty Deaner, who if you read this, I hope you are playing again.
I also have to mention Jody, who taught me Stairway to Heaven, back before most of us were embarrased to play it in public.
In the present, recent influences have been Ken of course, Brooks Williams, Peter Mulvey and Ellis Paul, who I have had the good fortune to spend time with and take away something to encorporate into my playing.
Thanks to all............
Well, I've been in Asheville a year now. Asheville has a great music scene. I am still playing mostly solo, but have been joined on stage by some folks I have met and had some great new sounds. I hope to continue to meet and play with some new people, with a duo or trio as a potential direction. I've been playing at some cool places, a couple not so cool places I will stay away from and will be continuing to venture out of the Asheville area. I hope to make it to some of the NC and other southern festivals, as the festival scene I experienced in Alaska was awesome. I finished some new music that has made it into my shows and will continue to work with Ken in Alaska and the "flute dude" in Austin Texas Kevin baker working on second parts and other music idea's. I'm still pushing my finger-picking style of folk-blues and spiced things up a bit recently with a great lesson from Vicki Genfan (check out her stuff by going to her page from my favorites) The 'Nothing More To Say' Cd is available, as is 'Out of the Basement'. Both can be found on iTunes, CDBaby.com and a variety of other internet locations. Or, drop me a line here and we can do it that way as well. I am working trying to make the self titled "Cook and Greene' CD available. Robin has been playing in Wisconsin. Check out her myspace page as well.
Be sure to check out Ken's page for some of his music as well.
To my friends in Alaska..I miss you!
To the friends I have and havent met yet in NC, stop by and say hi
