JOHN ADAMS
Thanks for stopping by my spot here. I hope you enjoy what you hear, see and read. If any of you need a press kit version of any of this stuff just send me a message or visit my main website. In the interest of “good PR” I will lay out my professional bio. Does anyone really like writing stuff like this about himself?
I am grateful to be one of the most versatile and reputable jazz and studio musicians and band-leaders. in the Southwestern US. I have Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the University of North Texas, where for ten years I was also the jazz bass professor. I am also active as a producer/arranger, composer, church musician, clinician, and an instructional author.
In the 1980’s I toured extensively with jazz great Woody Herman and have also backed vocalists Mel Torme, Rosemary Clooney, Wayne Watson, and Sandi Patti, and jazz artists such as Randy Brecker, Marvin Stamm, Bill Mays, Carl Fontana, Chet Baker, Clark Terry, and others. I have recorded with legendary jazz musicians Dave Liebman, Eric Marienthal, Bobby Lyle, Warren Bernhardt, and Joe McBride among others, and my broad background has also included extensive orchestral and classical work.
My debut CD as a leader, "Jump Shot," ('96) features New York and regional artists, and also showcases my writing. "Fly By Night" ('99) features an exceptional acoustic-jazz quartet in an intimate club setting, and the compelling, "With You In Mind" CD ('01) received airplay on over 130 stations, and features top musicians from Dallas, Austin, and L.A., including Eric Marienthal, formerly of Chick Corea’s “Electric Band”. In 2004 I released the “Live" CD, which captures the intensity and variety of one of my working units in concert settings. The latest release, “Trios,” (’06) features five different combinations of spectacular trio performances, and received airplay on over 160 stations. The latest release, “Thumbs Up,”(’09) is a full-fledged studio production with a fresh, contemporary sound, strong rhythms, rich harmonies, exciting originals and stunning arrangements of some surprising classics.
