John Denver, James Taylor, Paul Simon, Merle Haggard, Waylon & Willie, Jerry Jeff Walker, John Prine, Charles Shulz, Dilbert, Garfield, pretty much anybody I’ve ever listened to and a variety of cartoon characters!

Oh, Lord...let's see...an unhappy cat...dogs, coyotes, or wolves on a full moon night...that's about as close as I can come to describing it...OK, maybe it's not all that bad...listen and decide for yourself...of course, that's not me on "Just Another Cowboy"...gotta listen to "Neumann's Farm" or come out to hear me somewhere!
Well, let's see...I was born in Waco, Texas, back in the middle of the 20th Century. After college, I settled in the Fort Worth area, and now live in Burleson with Linda, the dogs, the cat, and our horses, Rocky & Maria (that's MarIa, like the wind in the song!)
I started writing songs back in the 1970's, but most of that proved to be garbage. I continued to dabble in it, and slowly got better; by the time the '90's rolled by, I'd actually written a couple of things that sounded halfway decent. I also met Linda, who encouraged me and gave me someone to write love songs about...so I married her! We both serve as music ministers at St. Ann Catholic Church in Burleson, TX.
I got active in the Fort Worth Songwriters Association in 2000, served 3 years as President, and still serve on the board as the newsletter editor. I also help serve as roadie/ringmaster/riot control officer at FWSA's Monday night Open Mic, at Dos Gringos Tex-Mex Grill & Cantina, 1015 University Drive in Fort Worth. We're there every Monday from 6:30 - 9:30 PM, so come by and listen for a while. Or get up and perform a couple of your own songs...we'll listen to them!
I won a guitar from American Songwriter Magazine in June 2002 for "Neumann's Farm"...which is a true story...the farm is about 5 miles NE of Waco; "Neumann's Farm" was even featured on RedTruckRadio.com's 2007 Thanksgiving/Christmas Show. I also got an Honor Award from the Great American Song Contest in 2002 for a song called "A Whole Lot of Good" ("We could do a whole lot of good, being just a little bad!")
I've co-written several songs recently with my good friend, Gary Pinkston - our "best effort" to date is "Just Another Cowboy", which we are proud to say, was cut by Nashville artist, Curt Stacy on J-Ram Records; just link to his site from my "Friends" list to hear his version. Gary & I wish Curt all the best ('cause that would be good for us, too!)
I'm a "new" Grandpa! Our oldest daughter, Stephanie, and her husband, Jorge, had a son, Andrew, in July 2009, and we've got another on the way in November (thank you, Kimberlee and Steven!). I get out and play occasionally, both locally and in Nashville (when I can get there!); I'd sure appreciate anybody coming out and listening!
Thanks very much for the add. I hope you enjoy my music. I’m looking forward to the release of my CD “Better Days to Cry” in early 2010 being produced by my label Spotlight Records.
Hey John, Really enjoyed hearing you last night. You are one of the best songwriters in the FWSA. Thank you for doing one of my favorites, "River of Tears". I still believe that one will be picked up by a major. Keep up the good work!! Boots
Heya John! Thanks so much for the kind add. Enjoyed your music when you played at the Commadore. Hope to hear you again when you are in Nashville again. All the Best, Anth
