John's Interests
|
| General | People, music, cooking, eating, movies, adventures, Mountain Dew, afternoons when you can see the moon | | Music | Stand too close to me and I'll try to make you a CD, which will include songs by the following people:
Jonatha Brooke has the best "Whoa, my heart has done what her voice just did" voice I've ever heard, and she knows how to use it.
Glen Phillips wrote and sang the songs for Toad the Wet Sprocket and still makes music brimming with wisdom and warmth; if my soul has a voice, I hope it sounds like Glen's.
Garrison Starr has a voice and a style like no one else and writes lyrics that will leave you suspecting she knows you better than you know yourself.
Kay Hanley fronted the late, great Letters to Cleo and now launches solo songs into sexy, sassy orbit with THE hottest voice in rock. "I'm not your mom. I'm a fucking A-bomb."
Nina Gordon was the sweet who made Veruca less Salty, but her smart, soaring solo stuff is anything but sugar.
Lovely Lisa Loeb wakes up every morning and bakes perfect pop nuggets like "Let's Forget About It." I'd like to bake her a love cake or something.
Dan Wilson, whom you'll remember from his days with Semisonic, writes great songs on his own and with others and always speaks from the heart.
With and without his friends in the Old 97's, Rhett Miller sweats bullets of voice and guitar brilliance.
No road trip is complete without a stack of Gin Blossoms CDs to help you sing really loudly in your car.
I once told Duncan Sheik that his songs had helped me make sense of some tough times, and he smiled and replied, "Yeah, me too!" Highly recommended for fans of classy, thoughtful pop. Some other favorites: The Sundays, that dog., Juliana Hatfield, Tracy Bonham, Matthew Sweet, Counting Crows, Collective Soul, Tonic, Neil Diamond, Fiona Apple, She & Him, Beth Orton Okay. One other thing. I'd love to be Bobby Brown's replacement in New Edition. They don't even have to turn my microphone on.
Ronnie, Ricky, Mike, Ralph, Johnny ... and Johnny. Word to the mutha. | | Movies | Rushmore, The Dark Knight, Batman Begins, Pee-wee's Big Adventure, Mr. Mom, The Empire Strikes Back, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, The X-Files: I Want to Believe, Wes Anderson's other movies, Wes Anderson's American Express commercial | | Television | Seinfeld, The Office, Arrested Development, 30 Rock, Flight of the Conchords, SNL, I'm Alan Partridge, Spaced, The X-Files, Battlestar Galactica, Gilmore Girls, Wonder Woman, The Incredible Hulk, Highlander, Anderson, Olbermann | | Books | Murder at My Friend Harry's, Steve Martin's books, Harry Potter's Books, comic books | | Heroes | Parents, family, and friends. And I'd like to be these guys when I grow up:

Also, if you're reading this and you're Batman, please let me know what I can do to help you. |
