I'm pleased to be included on the the new cd released on the Greentrax label-"People and Songs of the Sea" (June 2009) and featuring a great selection of artists ( Archie Fisher, The Corries, The Cast and many more) reflecting the musical tradition of the fishing communities in Scotland. The album is a 'must buy' ! and features a host of contemporary and traditional songs, and is getting great early press reviews.
My own cd " Far from Home" (2008) features Scottish traditional tunes played on the guitar from the treasure trove of fiddle, pipe and harp music that form the backbone of the Scottish tradition. It is the first ever flatpicking Scottish guitar CD and features slow airs and reels to the rocking and bluesy "Rory Gallagher's Jig".
"The album is a box of delights & very fine playing" - BBC Radio Scotland
"An exposition of fleetfingered flatpicking" - Scotland on Sunday
"Far from Home is a delight" - BBC Radio nan Gael
"Wonderful clean flatpicking and excellent playing” - BBC Radio Wales
It features the sublime jazzy double bass playing of Brian Shiels and also some winsome bluesy twists from Dave Moir & Spider Mackenzie on guitar and harmonica. Available from www.MusicInScotland.com, www.Footstompin.com, www.MusicScotland.com, www.johncarnie.com and other good outlets.
I sing and play blues and have played in various bands such as electric ceilidh rockers "Desperate Danz Band", acoustic blues trio "Off the Tracks" and the Mountain Blues Ramblers. Involved as guitar tutor at the Scottish Culture and Tradition classes and written music articles including a recent one on the history of flatpicking guitar for "Living Tradition Magazine".

Hey John, how's it going over in Scotland? We've just put a new limited-time-only song up on our myspace called "Running Down The Line", so get in quick & have a listen - we'd love to hear what you think. Take care & keep in touch, Cheers, The Havelocks
John, just wanted you to know I'm still here. I had this idea to send this beautiful Goddess to your page but there's no section to add image. She had flame red hair, glowing blue eyes, holding a glowing orb. Very beautiful. I'm getting ready for another art exhibit..I'm doing another show at a very large church..the place has it's own restaurant and plasma tv's hanging from the ceilings as you can see the preacher during his thing at the pulpit. Just saying "Hello" (I sent the Goddess to my page in the comments section if you want to look at her) Dwana Horner
Hey John...hah, just resisted the urge to put in 'were you going with that gun in your hand' cos we don't start the day with bad music jokes (tis morning here) Yup, the blues demanded a comeback with me so I let 'em back in, have been watching Scorsese's Blues documentary series and it is damn good! Oh, yeah, HI! Very nice to meet and listen to you brother! Richie
