John Contreras is a cellist currently living in Los Angeles. He has recorded and performed with a variety of artists, and is best known for his work with Baby Dee and David Tibet's Current 93.
Classically trained since the age of 13, John was a member the San Diego Youth Symphony in his teens, and later was a member of the USC symphony. After a move to London in 1998, a change in direction lead him to work outside of the classical world. In the following years, John would play with various artists, including Marc Almond, Nurse With Wound, Rose McDowall, Cyclobe, Michael Cashmore and others.
He is presently recording an electroacoustic solo album combining cello and Buchla. Various samples are appearing in early forms on this myspace page.

NO? No festival? What a shame! I was looking forward to seeing you! Well, I'm sure studio work is pretty good, too - the show should be interesting though (and, luckily, the club is pretty close to our flat!) - Next time indeed! By the way, will you be doing work on your music? or with others? or?
I have some new leads pointing towards L.A. I'd like to get your take on doing a project together. I have to get a venue lined out first and god knows how long that will take. But I it's about that time- maybe early next year. Hope your well.
totally enjoyed the songs in your player John and I have quite a few records on which you contributed some delicate cellos thus it is a pleasure to get in contact
Thanks for your nice comment, I also do appreciate your music. Very minimalistic but with fresh colors of sounds. I saw you like Arvö Part, I love the tracked called "Fratres". Tell me what think about it.
Hi again John Yes all good with me. I'm going to see Marc in November - booked the tickets today - are you joining him on his mini tour of the UK? Would be nice to see you again. Have a great weekend
