Personal Background
I have roots in Wilmington, having grown up in the city. I attended Harlan, Christ Our King, St. Mary Magdalene, and Salesianum School, and the University of Delaware before graduating from the University of Richmond for my undergraduate degree in Political Science in 1982. After working for several non-profit agencies in New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Virginia for six years, I came back to suburban Wilmington in 1988 to attend the Widener University School of Law, where I graduated cum laude in 1991. In fact, my dad still lives in the 11th district just north of the Wilmington city limits.
Professional Background
My professional experience includes working with the legislature, working as an elected official for seven years (that is, the Recorder of Deeds and Register in Chancery for Sussex County), and running a law firm. Collectively, these experiences gave me an understanding of administration, policy development, management of a small business, and addressing the needs of the people. All of these skills are important to being an effective Insurance Commissioner, and I'm the complete package. You might say I'm well-rounded. :) I've been a member of the Delaware and New Jersey Bars since 1991, and lecture around the country for bar review programs for new lawyers.
