Here are some pieces of artwork by John Franks. As you can see he is strongly influenciated by surfing and the poster art scene from the 60s. Hope you enjoy it!
Smile was born in 1996 leaded by the singer-songwriter John Franks who got together with ex-members of the bands Gravestones and Little Fish. Ever since the beginning Smile have been playing gigs specially in the Basque Country. I can't think of any place where they haven't had a chance to display their soft, melodic acoustic tunes, and with well known bands too, like Wilco, Donavon Frankenreiter, Waterboys, Dean & Britta, Bart Davenport, Sunday Drivers...!!!
In their songs you will find a bit of a retro 60's hippy west coast blend (Lovin Spoonful, Buffalo Springfield...) as well as a mellow 70's vocal touch (Neil Young, CSN, America...). And of course a feel for the new acoustic movement (Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, Jayhawks...).
Combining all these influences, Smile has created music which evokes classic sunsets, friendly camp fires and good vibes that will soon have the listener smiling along to the optimistic, positive, sunny lyrics.
Smile have proudly auto released 2 demos in 1998 and 2000.

mr. john franks...por si todavia no lo habia escuchado pasese por el myspace y pulse el boton del reproductor musical, y meta un poquito de rock duro por sus venas...un abrazo!
Nos hemos vuelto locos y nos fuimos hasta Eslovaquia para grabar las cuerdas de nuestro tema Trust que ya hemos colgado en nuestro myspace, ha sido una experiencia brutal y el resultado en el tema ha sido espectacular, cuando escuchas algo que has escrito tocado por estos virtuosos se te pone la carne de gallina y te quedas sin saber que decir.
También queremos hacer una aclaración a los rumores que dicen que alguna de estas discográficas grandes esta detrás nuestro pagandonos la aventura, NO ES CIERTO, no tenemos sello, somos hijos de vecino y nos hemos pagado la aventura de nuestro bolsillo y os aseguramos que hemos tenido que hacer mucho sacrificio para conseguir esto, pero es lo que hay, todo por nuestra música.
