John Hendicott is a music producer, sound designer, DJ and live
performer who specializes in commercial music and film score.
So far, John has written award winning music to accompany film,
dance and fashion, a Radio1 single of the week with double MOBO
Award winner Chipmunk, has undertaken 2 international DJ tours
and has played many live shows as a guitarist; last year supporting
hip hop legends, Method Man and Redman.
Whilst studying sculpture and photography, John developed an
interest in music production and quickly established himself by
creating bespoke scores for many of Sophie Clements’ award
winning animations, including ‘Turn The Tide’ (2006 Adobe Award
Winner) and ‘Evensong’ (Winner of the Jerwood Prize, 2008). This
work led to various commissions by Partizan director Daniel Wolfe
to write experimental music scores for the latest Nike Football and
MTV adverts.
Whilst enjoying score writing for television, John continues to
persue creative projects outside of this medium. Recently these
have included working with fashion designers Steve J & Yoni P on
their 2008 Fashion Week catwalk show, and also with The Bristol
Old Vic and Jasmiina Sipila on theatre productions and contemporary
dance pieces respectively.
John’s love for DJing spans over a decade, learning his trade in the
house and techno clubs of Cardiff, John was quickly marked out from
the crowd due to his consistent tune selection and compelling scratch
mixing style. Recently this has earned him international recognition
as an innovative DJ who will always deliver the crowd what they want.
A natural progression from DJing was writing music for clubs and radio.
John has released singles on various funk pioneering labels such as Tru
Thoughts and Wah Wah 45’s, and now turns his attention to more
mainstream music. In 2008 whilst producing the rapper Lady Lykez,
they broke from the studio to perform to sell out crowds at Bristol
Academy and Shepherds Bush Empire supporting Meth and Redman,
this time with John playing guitar. Since then John has collaborated
with MOBO award winner and highly acclaimed rapper Chipmunk and
has produced his first single; 'Chip Diddy Chip', which made Sara Cox’s
record of the week on the second day of pre-release.
For John it is this diversity that drives his passion for meaningful
and relevant music production... To view John's film work, please
