About JOHN JENKINS The Persuaders Liverpool SONGWRITER
Played keyboards with Liverpool Band COME IN TOKIO fronted by Phil Wylie from 1981 to 1983 - Had several Radio BBC 1 sessions with John Peel and Kid Jensen and nearly signed major record deal, supported Elivis Costello - left amicably to form own band with fellow Tokio guitarist & friend John Gillin.
Wylie had wrote all the songs with Tokio so Jenkins and Gillin wanted to do something with their songs - This band was called THE PERSUADERS (after the Roger Moore/Tony Curtis tv show) -
1st line up featured Tony Upham vocals in 1984/95 and had two BBC Radio sesssions with John Peel and Janice Long - Upham left in 1985 and John Kennedy replaced him in 1986 with Siobhan Maher added on backing vocals - This was 10 piece band with horn section and nearly signed to Virgin records - even had Richard Branson singing at one of their gigs -
Siobhan left to form RIVER CITY PEOPLE and Jenkins did some keyboards on live shows and demos for RIVER CITY PEOPLE
Gillin left THE PERSUADERS in 1987 and Jenkins & band carried on until the band disbandend in Sept 1989 after signing major Management deal with KRT who managed STING unfortunately nothing came of this
Jenkins left live work behind from this point but continued to write but only as a hobby - reunited with Gillin in 90's for a project that is still ongoing called URGE - writing and recording their own songs - Jenkins is also working on other projects - These are songs at present outside the URGE project.
INTRUDERS - A Collection of old and New Songs with different Singers.
A NEW YORK ROMANCE - A Romantic/Comedy Musical set in New York - "A NEW YORK ROMANCE" is currently at it's half way point.
Sorry this is a bit of a back dated response! I'm glad you enjoyed the Parr St charity gig with TJ & Murphy - I had a great night too! Thanks so much for finding me on MySpace. Please check out my band The Staves (in my top friends) if you have a chance. It's me and my two sisters!
Hey John! That is SO cool! Siobhan is the one who told me about LIPA
