John has been playing professionally since the age of 15, after studying at the Victorian College of the Arts, he moved in to local band Erin's Pride. After a year or so he began playing with renown band The Wrenboys, where he toured extensivley throughout Australia and Asia. After the fold of the Wrenboys he moved on to Melbourne Party band the Brogues playing fiddle and singing.
In 2000 (wanting a change of scenery) he started performing with the Aria nominated group Inka Marka touring around Australia and a memorable trip headlining at the International Rainforest Music Festival in Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo. At the same time becoming the face of the Streats International Jazz Festival in Singapore, where he also performed with Inka Marka. He also recorded with Jim Keays, Russel Morris, Darryl Cotton, Inka Marka, and the Hollow during this time.
Having played Bluegrass all of his professional career he decided to put together his mix of country, bluegrass, and rock to tour exstensivly throughout Asia, with many different variations on his party band "The Out'a'Towners"
After a short stint with the Silverstring Outlaws, he then joined and still performs with Matt Scullion and the Lost Moments, Tom Curtain Band, Karl Broadie, Den Hanrahan, Travis Sinclair, Sovereign, Cyril Moran, Matt Gurry, Country Folk and many other touring acts...including the internationally renown Barry McGrath (Ireland). He has also performed with many different country acts throughout Australia including, Bill Chambers, The Re-Mains, Steve Eals, The Rain, Simon Imrei, and many more.
