   About john king music
JOHN KING, composer and guitarist, has had his music presented in many major festivals, including the Fronteras Festival (London); Next Wave Festival (NY); Schleswig Holstein Musik Festival (Hamburg); Intermedium 1 Festival (Berlin); Creative Time's "Music in the Anchorage" (NY); Warsaw Autumn and Bang On A Can (NY). Mr. Kings experimental opera, la belle captive, based on texts by Alain Robbe-Grillet, was premiered in Buenos Aires at the Centro Experimental de Teatro Colon in April 2003, receiving further performances at the Fronteras Festival (London, Sept. 2004) and The Kitchen, NYC in Jan. 2005. His commissions and collaborations include those for the Kronos Quartet; Red {an orchestra}, Ethel; the Albany Symphony/Dogs of Desire, Bang On A Can All-Stars; Mannheim Ballet; the Royal Danish Ballet; New York City Ballet/Diamond Project, Stuttgart Ballet, Ballets de Monte Carlo; SüdWestRundfunk (Baden-Baden), Pennsylvania Ballet, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, Merce Cunningham Dance Company and the Childrens Theater Company (Mpls., MN). He has received grants from the NEA/Music in Motion, New York State Council on the Arts, Asian Cultural Council, Meet The Composer/Readers Digest Dance Commissioning Program, Minnesota Composers Forum, the Fund for US Artists at International Festivals, and New York Foundation for the Arts. Mr. King curated the music for the Merce Cunningham Dance Companys EVENTS at the Joyce Theater and at The Barbican Center in London. He was Music Curator at The Kitchen from 1999-2003 and is currently a co-director of the Music Committee at MCDC. His radioplay TORN/zerrisen was commissioned by SüdWestRundfunk radio, Baden-Baden, Germany and has been broadcast throughout Germany as well as being performed live in Berlin's Kunstler Theater. His first opera Herzstuck/heartpiece, based on the text of Heiner Müller, was premiered at the 1999 Warsaw Autumn Festival and presented at the Kitchen in 2000.

I start school up again on the 18th, annnnd curves is...well...curves, but im also working for Dain's Dad's business with Dain, and at a catering place on the weekends!

i'm kinda bored but actually, its a relief. haha. just say NO to in-house weddings for a while... in true nerd fashion i've been out star-gazing pretty much every night. other than that we've been doing a whole lotta nothing. i start online classes next week though. =) WOOOO!

Yes, it was the February-band. They played on a fine small festival, organised by 'Kraak', a small Belgian (avant-garde) label.
We (Wannes and Pieter) liked it a lot!

i absolutely LOVE living in the city. lincoln park is amazing and i've been taking advantage of all the culture we have available here. its great. my dad and ali are coming to visit this weekend, which should be exciting. i'm thinking about swithching to a literature/ philosophy double-major, but we'll see....
