   About John LaSala
..
A Rather Prolix Bio (as of February 2007):
John LaSala blends electronic and acoustic sounds, creating music in the dangerous void ’twixt artsy-fartsy and tunefully accessible. His award-winning compositions have been called “vibrant, eclectic, ravishing” and “worthy of instant classic status.”

In early 1999, MacDuffie/Jones Dance commissioned John to score their adaptation of The Snow Queen. After several incarnations, the show, in its entirety was produced in January 2000 at The Cornelia Connelly Theater in NYC. That summer, The Snow Queen soundtrack, was released on the world renowned TownHall Records.

John continued his collaborative efforts when Angela Jones and Chelsea Bacon commissioned music for aerial modern dance entitled, “Sleeping Beauty Lies.” The piece premiered at Lincoln Center and resulted in a wild mesh of electro-acoustic fun entitled, “Angela Jones' Flying Circus.” In 2001, a second incarnation of The Snow Queen was produced as a part of the New York International Fringe Festival where John was awarded the Festival's Excellence Award for Music Composition.

The following year John broke from dance/theater to work with fellow composer Charles Griffin on an electronic score for the Jeffrey Williams short film, "City Hall" as well as sound designing and composing the score for The Wake Up Artists’ play Shakespeare’s Women.

During 2003 John renewed his collaboration with Noel MacDuffie, working on Soul Descending, a dark modern dance piece inspired by the legend of Orpheus and Eurydice. John also contributed to the soundtrack of a feature-length H.P. Lovecraft animated film adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s The Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath.

In the next few years following John created music for noel macduffie performance's “Mamnum” presented by the D.U.M.B.O. and Cool New York Dance Festivals. He also wrote a wedding ricercare, which has been performed several times on the largest fully-functioning church organ in the known universe!

In Summer 2006, he collaborated again with noel macduffie performance to present their latest work, 3 a.m., 89º, no wind as part of HERE’s American Living Room Series.

John’s most current compositions can be found as part of An Enemy’s Friend, a collaborative music project from Des Sovere, available through Sidedown. He is also taking part in the international RPM Challenge, which challenges artists to compose and record an entire album in 28 days.
