My name is John Lithium. I create dark ambience, experimental industrial, electronic drone, avant-garde electronica, and noise/power-electronic songs, usually within the framework of a philosophical/spiritual/scientific/social concept and/or theory (but not always). I record under the names "John Lithium", "Terra Engine", and "Nihil Obstat". Former projects, which are no longer active, include "Orphan", "Luminarens", "Kharaxus", and "N.C.F.C.".
The two initial John Lithium LPs, known as "The Throne Of Souls" and "Mesmerism" (later edited into a shorter version called "Selected Mesmerism") were only available through Snocap (in addition to being distributed to friends I knew locally). Material from these two albums were later re-mastered (and sometimes remixed) for release on the John Lithium release "The Mysterious Stranger", released through CRUMBLING WALL RECORDS. In addition, two remix EPs were released: "The Remixable Stranger" (released independently) and "The Remixable Stranger II" (privately released to friends). This material featured material specifically designed to be remixed by the listener.
Terra Engine: This project is known for 'avant-garde melodic electro drone soundscapes (or 'power ambience', for short), although that is not the sole focus of this project. It also encompasses experimental electronica, industrial, and dark ambience. I am not really concerned with genres, preconceptions, and limitations. Slowly evolving bass pulsations twine with synthetics that emulate sound returning to a pure form: the drone and the echo. Meanwhile, inevitable comparisons between machinery, industrial factories, psychological processes, and electrical brain impulses is blurred even further with dark, foreboding, and experimental passages.
Terra Engine is always evolving. It is not content to reside in one particular method or sound.
"This is the sound of that which cannot be comprehended, what is beyond our ability to understand. When reason, logic, emotion, and truth have reached their limits. This is the sound of tragedy, triumph, loss, victory, love, rage, melancholy, sorrow, and fear. It is meant to provoke an emotional response through non-specific/themed aural stimulus. Then, you may feel, that there are no happy endings, because nothing ends".
Terra Engine has released albums on Amduscias and Timetheory Netlabel. Tracks have also appeared on the Timetheory compilation "Sprimmer", as well as on remix albums of material by Simple Painter, Mystified, and HeartFuct. In addition to this, a new track will be released soon on compilations by Okkulth Records and Timetheory Netlabel (respectively).
Nihil Obstat: "If you hate noise, then you will loathe Nihil Obstat". No 'shock value', no 'controversial politics', no bullshit. Nihil Obstat is the real thing.
Nihil Obstat has released albums on Clinical Archives, Amduscias Records, Sounds Abound, and Timetheory Netlabel. In addition, Nihil Obstat has appeared on an Amduscias Records compilation and the recent Dirgehead Distribution compilation (BUY AN ALBUM! ALMOST ALL COPIES ARE STILL AVAILABLE!).A 'new' track is set to appear for the upcoming Dustin-Must-Die '10 Second Compilation', and the long-delayed fifth album is going to be released by the mighty TWILIGHT LUGGAGE.
PS While all of my music is freely available, it also means that I make next to no money on this endeavor. I continue onward in order to develop my aesthetic and produce unique and 'beautiful' musical compositions. While I continue to look for a better-paying job, money is going to be tight in December. Mainly due to bi-annual car insurance payments (going to switch to monthly, because only two payments is too hard on the wallet) and student loan payments. If you would, could you throw a few dollars my way? Please be assured that this money is ONLY being used to make sure I don't go into debt while I continue the job search.
Anybody who donates will be able to receive a COMPLETELY EXCLUSIVE 'donator album' from me, in the near future, composed of all-new and never before released material.
all your tracks are uploaded... thanx man, ive been enjoying "The End: Please Dont Leave Me" track for the past hour and a half on loop. lol. nice shit. http://www.glitchgore.com/hear.html
"It's hilarious when people complain about 'software vs hardware' synths, as if we are all as rich or established as them..."
People who argue the virtues of music based on the tools used to make the music, not the music itself, are patently full of shit. I think it's the same crowd that argues that unless you pay for music, it's not real... ie if your music is released and distributed by free netlabels, the music and the artist aren't real.
Such people are working within antiquated and irrelevant systems and are fearful of becoming antiquated and irrelevant themselves.
good, actually, gathering up media to absorb during the winter, assembling tracks for falter. i also think i see the possible cause for your sudden label hunt ;) TT's always available to you, but let me see if i have some other recommendations i can make.
Yes the atrocious tech team of Myspace Inc. spends most of there days sending troubled users snide messages instead of focusing on fixing any problem. With a history like that of Toms, it is no surprise they give less than a shit about the collective community. Thanks for coming by and sending word, it was good to hear from you. And I love listening to your dark ambiance
9393/111 thanks you for add me... "Oh! Come with me, the KIA and the ZOS, to witness this extravagance." best regards from Colombia KERVAL 210 PAN.O.RA.MA journal http://www.panoramajournal.blogspot.com
