Hi John, Great to hear from you! I had a brilliant trip home, plenty playing and visiting, the usual! It was sad indeed about Ali, he really was my accordion mentor as well as great friend. Sadly missed. I did manage a few tunes with John Pirie when I was home, he still gets out to play with Hamish Polson quite a bit which is good. Anyway, take care and keep in touch!
Hi John, Thank you for the lovely comment, which I was delighted to receive. (Btw I love the accordian - my grandad used to play it - and a few months back I went to a workshop where a guy demonstrated the accordian's history through the ages and explained how it got to the Deep South in America. Fascinating).
Hiya John - yes it is indeed the Old Brewery Alan Reid was hoping to do a gig in, he was touring as a duo. I had numerous discussions with Alan trying to get a date but unfortunately we couldn't fit them in before or after they went to your part of the world. I'm sure it will happen eventually!
We had a great gig last night with Rachel Walker & her band - Carol-Anne MacKay (Dochas) & Ewen Robertson....
Hi Mairi ....yes the old Brewery was a fun place to play around when I was a kid ...and lived at 51 Church Street ..I'm sorry I didn't visit it when I was home in June 2006 ..to see the new look !! would have been fun ..the BattleField band are just finishing a Tour of OZ and NZ ..and I had the pleasure of Interviewing Allan Reid for a Radio Show in Canada ..he was telling me they could be doing a "gig" in Cromarty ..maybe it's your Place ? Nice Guys ..and a brilliant band..
