About John Mackey

Born and raised in Maryville, MO. Got my first guitar at age 12. Took a few lessons from a local college student. He was very good and very technical. Our styles of music clashed though. Once he taught me the basics there was no place else to go. Started taking lessons from the Local Legend, Dave Reeves. It was more like a weekly jam between a couple friends than a lesson. He was more of a mentor. In high school. I started writing. I decided music theory would be good to tap in on the way to do that. It wasn't. It was based on rules and bounderies. I don't beleive there are any bounderies in music. If you set up road blocks then nothing ever happens. Everything would sound like polka. Anyway Now I am just writing and recording at home.
