Most often I perform solo, but I was joined by Seth Connelly, Matt Leavenworth, Don Croad, and Valerie Thompson on "Letters Home" and recently I've teamed up with gifted musicians such as Mike Gooley, Al Cath, Mark Bridge, and Perry Desmond-Davis on some gigs. Both recorded and live, how lucky can a man get?

I am inspired by Shindell, Dylan, Townes, Springsteen, and the memory of my mother loving to sing along with her AM car radio. The Bank Street Band, Kate Campbell, Seth Connelly and Dick Pleasants have also been important teachers and influences.

Some have said I remind them of John Prine, Bob Dylan, or Tom Rush.

My songs tell stories, and in "Letters Home" I try to provoke your thoughts as well as leave you with words and music that linger. To this day I am inspired by my mother loving to sing along with the car radio. When the great Texan George Brown moved to Baltimore and I heard him sing “Pancho and Lefty,” I knew I would play. He taught me how, and also that music is for bringing people in, not excluding.
Hi, John, love to visit your site and hear you there; hope to hear you live when I come back to New England for a visit June 24 to July 19 or so. Can you come out and play? Judith and I are just loving it down here in Fayetteville AR, which is a funky hidden jewel of a place. Mike Shirkey of www.goodfolk.org was happy to get that signed copy of your CD when I stopped in there to hear one of his house concerts recently; hope he'll blast you out on his show, The Pickin' Post, on KUAF 91.3 National Public Radio from the University of Arkansas here. . . the longest-running show on the radio hereabouts, I think. Sorry this message so long -- not the best "Letter Home" I know of. . . stay tuned. Ellis
Whoops - hit submit too soon... that wasn't all I was going to say. I wanted to say that I loved your performance last night as well - as I do all of them, and look forward to the next time we can collaborate together. See you soon I'm sure...
