The band's second full-length album, Sun King, was released February, 2011. John began writing songs while working as a house painter in Crested Butte, Colorado. He worked as a production assistant for Warner Brothers and HBO in Los Angeles, published two short stories, won awards at international film festivals and worked in a liquor store before earning an MA in creative writing at the University of Southern Mississippi. He currently teaches part time at the University of Maryland. For three years John Mancini Band has built a loyal fan base that recently voted them onto the Jambands.com homepage. Baltimore-based John Mancini Band serve up set after set of original songs backed by a dynamic rhythm section with the intention to jam. Dedicated to their energetic live performances, JMB's studio work appeared on Relix Magazine's Monsters of Folk CD sampler, and they continue to gain positive editorial reviews internationally for their self-produced 2009 debut.
Sharing the stage with some of their favorite regional jam bands, including Mad Sweet Pangs, Basshound, The Macpodz, Zach Deputy, and others, as well as having recently supported national act, Garaj Mahal, JMB continues to turn ears and expand their fan base beyond their hometown.
After graduating from Rhode Island School of Design, John Mancini started writing songs while working as a house painter in Crested Butte, Colorado. He also worked as a production assistant for Warner Brothers and HBO in Los Angeles, published two short stories, won awards at international film festivals, worked in a liquor store, went to graduate school in Mississippi, then started teaching film and writing at Towson University where he started John Mancini Band in 2007.
From the 8x10 to Sullivan Hall, John Mancini Band covers venues from DC to New York and points west. They've been invited to perform at the Dewey Beach Jamfest, The Columbia Festival of the Arts, The Baltimore Music Conference, The Baltimore Jazz & Blues Fesitval, Towson University, and Philadelphia's Moore College of Art.
