| About John Moore |
|
John Moore, lyric baritone, was born and raised in Iowa. His musical life began early singing in churches, choirs, and at community events. He began pursuing classical voice as an eighth grader, after hearing Iowan bass-baritone Simon Estes at an event in Washington D.C. At Okoboji High School, John continued sang in musicals including: The Music Man, Brigadoon (Tommy), Oklahoma (Curly), and The Pirates of Penzance (Pirate King). He also was involved with honor choirs, state champion jazz bands, and award winning song and dance shows. John got his feet firmly planted in operatic repertoire at Simpson College in Indianola, IA under the tutelage of Anne Larson and Dr. Robert Larsen. Moore spent three summers at the Des Moines Metro Opera festival singing: "Yamadori" in Madama Butterfly, "Henry Cuffe" in Gloriana, and "Papageno" in the Magic Flute. John was accepted into the Minnesota Opera resident artist program during the season. At Minnesota he sang: "Masetto" in Don Giovanni, "Sciarrone" in Tosca, and "2nd boy" in the U.S. premiere of The Elephant Man. Following an appearance in the finals of the Metropolitan Opera's National Council Auditions in the Spring of '06, Moore was accepted into the Lindemann Young Artist Program. He continues this season with the LYAD program and will make his Metropolitan Opera debut as Fiorello in 'Il Barbiere di Siviglia' in January.
