| About John Monnecka |
|
John Monnecka offers up a total package rarely seen among contemporary singer/songwriters. As technically skilled a guitarist and musical arranger as any great in the business, his edgy and soulful, baritone vocals may arguably be richer. And then theres the passion. From his smouldering, blues-infused, acoustic guitar work lasting up to four hours without a break, to the most gut-wrenching love song poured out as though a private confession, it is John Monneckas passion as a live performer which defines the core of his music. And it is precisely this element which eludes capture by any studio recording, however well produced. John Monnecka must be seen and heard live to be experienced fully.
Born to perform, John taught himself to play the guitar by ear at six years old. He aspired to sing and play like his talented older brother, who in turn was deeply influenced by the melodic arrangements of Lennon and McCartney. Johns second pivotal influence as a young guitarist was Van Halen, particularly Eddies revolutionary guitar techniques. Stevie Ray Vaughans acoustic blues influence is also apparent in Johns arrangements and delivery. With his raspy, soulful voice often compared to the likes of Bob Seger, John is perfectly suited to sing the blues inflected material he writes. All of Johns musical influences, both early and more recent, are synthesized into his own entirely unique brand of acoustic rock. He even molds cover songs into original and vibrant compositions which often surpass their predecessor. Among John Monneckas recent musical influences are Edwin McCain, Gavin DeGraw and John Mellencamp. Elements of new country style are also evident in Johns music, particularly in his romantic portrayal of the Common Man, and his use of simply eloquent language in songwriting.
Few solo musicians can capture their audience for the long haul without a band. When you add Johns quick wit and instantly familiar rapport with the audience to his driving passion and compelling talents, it becomes quite clear that John Monnecka does not need a band behind him. His fans continue to turn out in overwhelming numbers for regional appearances across the east coast. John has opened for renowned performers such as Edwin McCain and Joan Jett, and bands such as Marshall Tucker and the Smithreens. He is scheduled to open for Patty Smyth and Scandal at the Starland Ballroom, one of Jerseys hottest venues, on February 4th.
John Monnecka has released two LPs since 1998. His first, entitled The Truth, received outstanding reviews from music publications and substantial radio play, both local and national. In 2003, he released his second LP, John Monnecka to a packed house at the legendary Stone Pony.
John is currently working on his third LP while he continues to play a full-time gig schedule of clubs throughout New Jersey and New York City. His official website is www.johnmonnecka.com.
