Johnnie Be Good is a feature length documentary under production about Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Johnnie Johnson. The projected completion date of the documentary is late 2007 or early 2008. This documentary will look at the complicated relationship between two remarkable musicians, Johnnie Johnson and Chuck Berry, and examine the debate about whether Johnson should be remembered as merely a superior sideman to Berry, or one half of rock and roll's first great song-writing team. Rock and Roll Hall of Famers. Bo Diddley, Bonnie Raitt, and Bob Weir share their opinions. Also interviewed are three participants in Hail! Hail! Rock 'N' Roll, the movie which caused the music world to rediscover Johnnie: movie director Taylor Hackford, movie producer Stephanie Benett, and Rolling Stones keyboardist Chuck Leavell. Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards, Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry, and Hall of Famer John Sebastian have agreed to be interviewed. Music historians Rob Bowman , who wrote Johnnie's bio for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame program, and Bruce Pegg, who wrote the Chuck Berry biography Brown Eyed Handsome Man weigh in with provocative viewpoints. Executive producing Johnnie Be Good is documentary and feature film director George Hickenlooper, currently in post-production on Factory Girl, starring Guy Pearce, Jimmy Fallon, Hayden Christensen and Sienna Miller.
