Vintage blues for every occasion. Johny emerged from the murky depths of Salmon Bay, where clairvoyant mermaids anointed and crowned him with a leopard fez. Johny met Greg "White Lightnin'" Roberts aboard the fishing boat that dragged him from the bay. And the rest is history.
Greg Roberts, aka "white lightnin,'" learned the blues from Telegraph Avenue guitar legend Johnny "Guitar" Knox. A long-time professional blues guitar, bass, mandolin, etc. player, Greg played with a host of great Bay Area bands, including the Hucklebucks, before moving to Seattle to help found the Johny Broomdust Band. He sings like the devil himself and plays scorching blues guitar.
Bubba "the unreal" McCoy has the best blues singing voice you will ever hear, and when Bubba walks in the room, the party has begun. He plays harp and sings.
Blues Boy G plays the blues, the funk, the swing, the pop, and the tango with flair and intensity. Got a shovel? Blues Boy G can dig.
David "Stickboy" Hudson has a successful band of his own called the Hudson Blues Band that frequently performs in Western Washington; he is also a favorite drummer of the Johnny Broomdust Band.
Daddy Treetops is the founder and principal purveyor of an ethnomusicological subgenre known as Nooksak River Delta Blues. He is one of the greatest songsters, guitar players, and personages in the Pacific Northwest musical scene. He often travels, sometimes to Montana.
The Blues Healers (Diane and Donnie Forsythe) are human embodiments of the gods and goddesses of music and love.
Billy Spaulding is the real deal. During the first few blues jams without Greg, Billy became Johny's mentor, teaching him the bass lines on stage from the drum stand. Johny and Bill were the first rhythm section for the Broomdust Band, snf when Bill rejoined the band, Johny smiled - "Bill has been one of my best friends for a long time. I love him, I admire his incredible musicianship, and I am deeply honored to play with him."
Billy Reed can play the piano like nobody's business.
The Johny Broomdust Band plays weekends and private parties. We only play a couple of weekend nights a month so book us early for holidays and special occasions.
The Johny Broomdust Trio plays Thursdays from time to time at Smokin' Pete's BBQ and other low key festivities- Johny on bass, Billy Reed ..s and singin', and Treetops on guitar and singin'; Johny even pitches in some singin' here and there(you'll probably wind up doing some singin' yourself).
Johny and Greg host the Broomdust Blues of the Past Jam the first Wednesday of every month at Conor Byrne Pub and the third Wednesday of every month at the Highway 99 Club. Johny and/or Greg have now been hosting the jam at Conor Byrne (formerly the legendary Owl Cafe) for more than five years. The best blues players in Seattle and touring players from all over the country get up on stage for the groovingest and best attended (by all the grooviest Ballard Avenue bohemians, including numerous strikingly beautiful and brilliant women) jam in town. The old Broomdust Blues Band (Johny, Bubba, Blues Boy G, and David) still plays the first set at this jam - it's the only way anyone in the world will ever see this band perform again (unless we change our minds).
