Influences
Roy Buchanan, Muddy Waters, Freddie King, Romeo Bonifacio, James Burton, Reggie Young, Johnny Winters, Duane Allman, Albert Collins, Delbert McClinton, BB King, Mike Bloomfield, Clarence White, Tony Rice, Merle Haggard, Roy Nichols, Dell Mack, Johnny Isom, JJ Cale, Jesse Winchester, Bobby Preston, Hoyt Axton, and last but not least my dear friend and mentor Billy Charles Crider. RIP. When Billy died a few years ago we lost one of our best guitarist. (Just ask anyone who knew him) May his memory live on.
I have traveled across the U.S. for 35 years playing singles and working as a sideman on guitar.
In Lake Charles I got to work with such artist as Everitt Brady, Rufus Thibodeaux, Ricky Kelly, Michael Young, KJ, Darrell and Ronnie Fruge.
I worked in Kansas City with Southern Comfort, Conrad Morris, Billy Charles Crider, Rock-n-Rick and the Roadmasters, (I was one of the original members and still perform with them), along with years late night jams with many of KC's finest players such as Johnny Isom, Lonnie Ray, Ronnie, Brewer, Lonnie Harper, Micheal D, Spike Blake, Big John Amaro, Little Hatch, D.C. Bellemy, Bob Schnebelen, Abbe Locke, Greg Camp, Jimmy Harlowe, Batman, Frank Brown, Rick George, Kenny Tuna, Mike Harvey, Wayne Smith, Tom "Trashmouth" Baker, Glen Patrick, Mark St John, Dux Werner, Rick Hendricks and many others. Oh not to forget the best barbecue in the world compliments of Amazing Grace. Thanks from "The Slabman."
I want to make mention here of my old friend Dave "Bones" Mead. He was my friend, along with sharing his apartment for a few years, my band mate in a few bands over my time in KC, a Kick Ass drummer and he was my dearly missed running buddy when we were both running way to hard for anyone to be running. Rest in Peace Brother Bones.
Billy Charles was one of the greatest guitar players of the last century. He was a great friend and mentor to many good players. Those who knew him are at a loss. He could play like Chet, Thumbs, Dianjo, all wrapped up in one. Rest in peace Billy.
I moved to Rochester New York in 95 where I worked with Bill Coffee, Nate Coffee and Rockin Robin. While in New York I got to spend some time jamming with some great musicians such as Joe Beard, Chris Beard, Dan Schmitt and the Shadows, Steve Lyons and the legendary Dukes, Chet Catallo, Joff Wilson, The Riviera Playboys, Steve Grills, Sonny Anderson, Marshall James, and last but not least the one and only Robert "Fat Bob" Rickard. R.I.P.
Moving back to Missouri in 2001 I started working with Jimmy Fohn band playing the Route 66 area until Jimmy moved to Nashville to chase his dreams and from the demo's I've heard he's doing a damn good job of it.
Here in the Ozarks I currently work with Dell Mack (Goldband, Sun Records) and the Bluff City Boogie Kings (pictured below), who I have worked with off and on since I was a teenager playing the clubs around Ft. Leonard Wood with Bobby Preston, Red Wayne, John Starr, Ray Carson, Jim Merrill. Romeo Bonifacio, Red Ryder, Harry Verrelle, Steve Hooks, Alvin "Cave Man" Vance, and The Incredible Flop House Orchestra, which included Mike Wilkins (vocals) Rev Dehart (drums, vocals) Rick Gibson (Bass, vocals) and Joe Reppert (Piano, B3) and John Evans (Guitar, vocals).
I want to mention my friend Tommy "Butch" Smith who taught me so much. Tommy if you're out there here's a big "hay" from "outlaw land." Hope you are having a ball.
I have also shared the stage with such artists as Joe Beard, Muddy Waters, Joel Sonnier, Little Hatch, Levon Helm, Russel Smith, Chris Beard, Steve Gaines, John Moss, and Don Ships.
I have been writing new tunes and working in the studio (_hit House Recording) with Dell Mack, Danny O"Reilly, Kevin Shreives, Keven Shreives Jr., Dale Peterson, Ted Tyson, Shelly Tyson, and our engineer/sound man Earl "Doc" Walker.
The first song, I found you, is one I wrote with Cloyce "CJ" Roberts. CJ is a fine singer/songwriter and I have written some good ones with him.
The last three songs I have posted are some of mine. I recorded them at Hit House a couple years ago on a Fostex 16 track. Doc Walker engineered and I did the mixdown except on Savannah which Doc mixed down.
I found You: CJ Roberts (Vocals), John Evans (Guitars) Shelly Tyson (Bass), Tossi (Keyboards), Ted Tyson (Drums)
Savannah: John Evans (Guitar, Strat & Acoustic), Jay (Drums), Danny O'Reilly (Bass)
Don't let the Door: John Evans (Acoustic Guitar and Vocals), Danny O'Reilly (Tele), Ted Tyson (Drums), Shelly Tyson (Bass).

The Pictures below are of "The Bluff City Boogie Kings" featuring Dell Mack on Bass, Roger Ogle on Drums, Harry Martin ..s, Doc Walker on Percussion, and Johnny Evans on Guitar. The others are dear friends. Johnny Isom, Jimmy Fohn, Joe and Chris Beard, The late Bill Coffee, plus my late brother Hank Brake that died last year. That's Hank on the Harley. He was known for his "go fast" skills as a stroker builder. His last ride was in the Hearse pulled by a three wheeler. Hank, I hope you are having a lot of fun up there. I love you brother. You too Bill.

Oh fine. Taunt me with visions of KC ribs dancing wantonly on a Melmac plate, or a seductive buttload o' brisket spread out on a mattress of Bunny bread, or, or... nevermind. The good news is, a drummer I work with has found a WalMart on the outskirts of Nastyville that stocks Gates sauce, and has just brought me a bottle today. Yay! And thus, I am consoled.
Happy New Year to you too, Johnny. I think we'll be coming up to Missouri in March, hope to see you then. Also, we'll be appearing with the same band again on September 19th, 09 for CowDays Festival in Dixon. Hope you'll be there? Billy Arr
Okay, so now you got me thinkin' about some ribs I ain't ate yet, but unlike you, I'm not in KC. I'm in Nastyville, where they don't know the difference betwixt ribs and hot pickled caca on a stick. Wah! This is all your fault. But meanwhile, all the best to ya for a prosperous and creative 2009, filled with music, laffs, and toasted meat products.
Hey Johnny, nice sounds. Have you managed to get your hands on a G7th capo yet?! If not, you're missing out and you should have a look and get in touch if you're interested...
