I have yet to post a comment on your MySpace in fear that you have a lot of comments to go through and probably don't get a chance to got through evey last one. However, I felt it was time I commented. First thing, I was competely suprised when I first started listening to SA then to find your page here and see that you're into folk music, which is something I myself am into. I found it refreashing to find out of my favorite preformers also appreciates the complexity of lyrics and simplicity of music that folk posesses. Also I was watching some video of the cast introducing music videos or something random like that and you mentioned the band Brand New and I nearly fell off my seat. Deja Entendu defined my early teenage years and I was pleasently surprised that you had mentioned them. And one last thing that I feel I need to express. I myself, am VERY much like Moritz, never good in school, spazzy, and well not able to handle sadness. I went through a very similar situation and felt like this character was me. When I first saw SA it was one of the shows that was closely after the TONYS and I cried so much because Moritz reminds me of how lost I was and how close I was to well, ending up like him. I felt like this musical really spoke to not only me, but to our entire generation. I have no idea what to write anymore because so many things are going through my mind. But I have to say that your portrayl of not only Moritz but of someone who is lost, confused, frustrated and at their wits' end with life was simply moving. I'm not just one of those fans that saw you and was like "OMG! John Gallagher Jr. I love him!" I was the one sitting back in my seat saying "Wow, John Gallagher Jr. I appreciate him." Because up until you stepped on stage and became Moritz had I ever experienced such a character identification within myself. So I guess what this whole long comment comes down to is thank you.
Holly

Jun 29 2008 6:40 PM

sorry this is the end of my last comment because it wouldn't let me fit it all. I apologize if this is annoying or aggrivating to read...

Thanks for giving kids like me a voice, although I know a lot of work came from the writers in creating Moritz, but it took you to embody him an give him soo much more depth. So, Thank You.

Love,
Holly

p.s. I myself am a huge theater person and hope to one day grace the stages of Broadway and if I do, I hope that you see me in a show and are equally as moved (although that's a very long shot).

rachel told me she gave you a copy of vonnegut's latest. dont get me wrong, vonnegut is easily a true pioneer of beautiful literature and poignant writing; but the forward by mark is absolutely gorgeous and breath-taking. it was my favorite part of that book. i read it over and over and get chills each time. it is filled with haunting memories and chilling advice to us young folk, and filled with all of the good things vonnegut is made of. there are so many paragraphs and lines in that forward that need to be embraced by the mind and soul. i hope you enjoy it.

So I just got my copy of Port Authority in the mail (in book form, obvs). It's not the same as seeing your performance but it's as close as I'm going to get at this point, haha. Looking forward to the read. Also, there's an ad for Spring Awakening in Radar magazine that is your old poster, and there's also a quiz where liking Spring Awakening leads you to "Jenny Lewis". Coincidence.

melissa sent me a text saying "a bug flew into johnny's hair and he BUGged out". although that is unfortunate, you gotta admit it's pretty funny.
you must listen to the old version of "work the wound" i gave you. that's the only real change i remember from their transition to bway. personally, i prefer the original lyrics and think you should do an awesome cover of it..i haven't a clue how you'd create guitar accompaniment for it but i'm sure you could figure something out.
enjoy your time off and see you soon

Heyyyyy Johnny :D

I know I just commented you at like 1am but I wanted to tell you to have an awesome closing show and I hope it was a lot of fun (:

This crazed fan ♥'s you dearly!

Jun 22 2008 9:09 PM

it started in a little quaint town called pleasantville, filled with elderly people in the JCC, and ended with a moth attacking your ear closing night, filled with friends. what a great run you had! it has been a joy watching from start to finish!
congrats on all you have done, and enjoy the summer! get some rest, record a freggin EP, and hopefully we'll be crossing paths sometime soon!

ps: i am reading a book, "the ruins of california" and you may enjoy it... it's about a girl, growing up, going through your basic family struggles, but it's based in various parts of california during the 1970's, so you get a good look on culture, politics, music and the society during the time period.
an extremely easy read, but enjoyable none the less!

Oh my god.

Johnny, you blow me away sweetie :D Port Authority was quite possibly thee best piece of theater I've ever seen.

God, it was freaking brilliant. Damn.

You are just so cute and SO funny. You three guys up there kicked some serious ass today.

And then when I met you outside? I wanted to tell you that I was the chick who constantly comments you on MySpace but my mom isn't aware that I have a MySpace in the first place and if you ask me, its a very abrupt way to find out.

So yeah (:
A lot of people left, but I was determined to give you the card I made you. Andandand those other people who left totally missed out, because you are the sweetest, most adorable person I've ever met in my entire life.

Thanks for writing happy birthday on my playbill :D

Thanks for talking to me too! You made my life, I swear. Hehehe and then when we saw you at the fair was great. You're a cutie :] And then I saw you one more time and I waved to you and you waved back. You were eating something. I'm not gonna be a freak and ask what but I hope it was yummy!

Anyway thank you so much for totally making my life. I never thought I'd ever get to meet you, but I did! And just...thanks Johnny.

You have no idea what that means to me.

Thank you so much! Oh and: BLOW THE SHOW AWAY TOMORROW! :D Have a great closing show babe.

I ♥ you so much.
Like I said like five times today XD

I'm happy to hear you're seeing the straight theatre gig through ; ) You have a genuine knack for it.

They always says the true testing ground for acting is theatre; you either test positive or negative on stage.

Cheers, man! You deserve everything positive coming your way and more.

Jun 19 2008 6:46 PM

Hey Johnny,
Congratulations on the new play! It sounds really interesting, I'm definitely going to try my hardest to come see you in it. I've realized that the best things about all the different shows that you do is that my Dad is just as interested in seeing them as I am, so I always have a way to come see them. Haha, so thanks for choosing such great material :P
Anyway, congrats again.
Have an awesome closing weekend, sir. I'm sure it will be wonderful.
