The voice of a bitter regret, of missed and ignored chances, delivered with a scathing rage, sense of wit, and a vocabulary not normally found in similar music, Johnny's Last Resort fuse catchy but brutal riffs with the lyrical attitude of a freshly unleashed rage at a world which is seemingly at odds with itself, and a few catchy choruses thrown in for good measure. What the hell just have a beer and bang your head! You know it makes sense, listen to the voices...
Some History and Biog:
Johnny's last resort came into being when Paul completed his home
studio and invited Mike round to christen it with a jam, the guys
convened with Mike playing bass and Paul playing guitar, just throwing
some riffs together, trying to make the music they wanted to listen
to, with enough riffs between them the music came easily and sounded
great, Mike was immediately inspired to start writing lyrics. Thus
began the flow of material, the first song "Chains That Bind" was
written entirely that first night and the vocal on there was meant to
be a guide so Paul could add the final vocal, Paul however seeing the
quality Mike's almost spoken delivery gave decided to simply augment
Mike's vocal with harmonies and a more melodic vocal on the break
down.
This completed the lads went back to what they normally did for a few
days letting the song they had written sink in, until they decided to
see if they could do it again. They could and did, four more times
just as a project to keep them playing, until the fifth session when
they decided to put the material out there. They set up a myspace to
host the music, deciding between them to use Paul's suggested name
"Johnny's Last Resort" as a name for the project, at this stage there
was no real notion of making a band to play live, this situation did
not last as a few weeks later when the guys had amassed enough songs
to form a live set the call went out for a rhythm section (Mike
decided he could not play the bass parts and perform the vocals).
Two guys answered the call (both ironically called Johnny!) John
Marriott took over Mike's Bass Duties while Johnny Malone picked up
sticks to bring the beats, a practice then ensued which convinced Paul
and Mike the live idea would not just work, but it could sound great
with some practice and polishing up. A couple of line-up changes
barely slowed the progress of the band and Mike & Paul's enthusiasm.
Johnny Malone could not commit to the band full time so Tony Wood
replaced him, and a short while later John Marriot was faced with a
difficult working arrangement which prevented him being able to commit
to the band full time, one week on the line up was completed by Monk
(who was (and still is) also playing for "Big Conversation). The guys
began practicing weekly and jamming out new songs during these
rehearsals while polishing the songs into a crafted live set.
The band have also produced a video for their anthemic "Back For More"
as well as gigging frequently through recent months around the area to
growing acclaim and appreciation for their aggressive, riffy, catchy
songs and active live shows.
