Influences
Tinsley Ellis, Eric Clapton, BB King, Jimmy Hendrix, Johnny Winter, Jimmy Smith, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Ray Charles, Bo Diddley, Dr. John, Buddy Guy, John Lee Hooker, Albert King, Taj Mahal, T-Bone Walker and Willie Nelson to name a few. I meet so many great Blues Artists at all the Blues Foundation events and some are definitely engrained in my brain as my favorites. My list just keeps getting longer and longer.
Sounds Like
It sounds like John Parker with a little Robben Ford, Eric Clapton, ZZ Top and BB King thrown in just to keep your gumbo spicy!
The John Parker Band's "heart and soul" is house rockin' Blues artist John Parker, who has made his mark on the Southern California music scene and has taken Rock and Blues lovers by the ears. His blend of Hot Rock, Foot Stomping Blues and a touch of Country transmits a force of its own. Hot Rock and Blues only mildly describes what these guys have on the burner with a Blistering Guitarist, the "Lord of the Boards" and the best Rhythm Section this side of James Brown.
JOHN PARKER LEAD GUITAR & VOCALS
John was raised in the Santa Cruz area, playing for hire at age 14. He grew up loving the sounds of BB King, Django Reinhardt, Freddie King and Buddy Guy. A score of bands later, he wound up in the Atlanta, Georgia music scene where he found the blues calling. Now, he's back in California playing what he loves about Georgia the most - The Blues.
Favorite artists he has had the pleasure to perform with include Chicago Bob Nelson, Big Joe Jackson, the late Piano Red, Tinsley Ellis, Delbert McClinton, Butch Travette & the Alley Cats and Doug Kershaw. He's opened for The Beach Boys, Juice Newton, Eric Burdon, Bobby Bear and Coco Montoya.
While in Atlanta playing the Blues, he fell into the Motion Picture and Television Industry and worked both as an Actor and also as a Propmaster for several years before moving back to LA as a newlywed to further his career with new wife and Set Decorator, Lynn Wolverton-Parker, here in "Tinseltown". John ran the Fixtures Department at Paramount Pictures for several years. During his career, he has worked on some really great movies:
Harley Davidson & The Marlboro Man
Eight Men Out
School Daze
The Adams Family
Career Opportunities
The Brady Bunch
No Holds Barred
School Daze
Jaws 2
Jaws 3D
Calendar Girl
Adams Family Values
Indecent Proposal
Hunt For Red October
Star Trek Generation
Jennifer Eight
Beverly Hills Cop 3
Vampire in Brooklyn
Wayne's World
Wayne's World 2
Blue Chips
The Coneheads
Dante's Peak
Face Off
Relic
John also worked on these great Television Shows:
In The Line of Duty - The Undercover Murders
Space Above and Beyond
The Unconquered
Star Trek
Star Trek - The Next Generation
Rockford Files
Wings
Cheers
Frazier
Bob Newhart
McGuiver
Sister-Sister
Deep Space Nine
JAG
NCIS
He finally left Paramount after a successful 10 year run with the television shows "JAG" and "NCIS" and moved back into a very fulfilling lifestyle as a full time Musician and Songwriter.
He currently has two Bands that he works with all the time and a Trio Band and Duo as well as doing "Rockin' Blues Guitar" solo performances at various different Art Festivals, Clubs and Restaurants. His life style keeps him very busy.
In 2003, John became the President of the Santa Clarita Valley Blues Society and tries to keep involved in just about "everything Blues" in the Los Angeles area. He has very high ideals for the Music Style and is in the planning stages for some upcoming Concerts in the Santa Clarita Valley and other locations around the greater Los Angeles area. He is currently involved in implementing a new "Blues In The Schools" program in conjunction with The Santa Clarita Valley Blues Society for the area.
John is also a Legislative Ambassador for the American Cancer Society and works very closely with the Organization and our Government. Last year, he attended the "Celebration on the Hill" in Washington, DC and spoke before Congress in an effort to increase Cancer Research Funding. He is a five year Cancer Survivor himself, so this is a subject very dear to his heart. His disease also required him to have a Liver Transplant and now he also works as an advocate to teach the public about Organ Donor Awareness.
He is the Entertainment Chairman for the Santa Clarita Valley "Relay For Life", which is one of the largest Relays in California. Last year, they had more than 4,500 people in attendance at the Relay. The Santa Clarita Valley Blues Society was a Bronze Sponsor and helped fund the Santa Clarita Valley "Wall of Hope" that was erected with those from other areas around the Country at the "Celebration On The Hill". The "Walls of Hope" are signed by Cancer Survivors from each area of the Country. They are displayed in a "Maze" type of fashion since their lenth would cover 9 miles if displayed end to end. To date, his other band which has been playing together for 5 years, "John Parker & Forced Call" has been involved in ACS events that have made more than $3,000,000 in funds for more Cancer Research.
