Everyone who knows me knows what two of my passions are: horses and playing ball.
I love horses! My interest started one Christmas when a family in Arizona, who also has a child with DBA, sent me a horse sticker book. Shortly thereafter, I ended up in the hospital with a very bad central line infection and required a stay of almost three weeks, receiving I.V. antibiotics. This sticker book was my security blanket. I would sleep with it, wake up with it, and eat my meals with it. Well, you get the picture. Yes, I still own this book. Its all torn, but it is what kept me going during that hospital stay. People have given me many horse gifts since then. My daddy takes me to Griffith Park to ride the horses. Thank you, daddy.
Yes, I love every sport from baseball to basketball and soccer, etc. I even attempt to play golf. But if I had to choose, my favorite would be baseball. I love to throw and bat. Again, anyone who has been at the other end when I toss that ball can tell you that I throw at such a great speed.
I, John Paul Quintero, want to welcome and thank every one of you for caring enough to take the time to get to know me through my website. I will share with you what my life has been like, what it is like currently, and what it will be like when WE FIND A CURE!!! You see, I am a 5-year old child who at 1 month of age was diagnosed with a very rare blood disease known as Diamond Blackfan Anemia (DBA) in which my bone marrow does not produce red blood cells. Therefore, in order to survive, I require blood transfusions every 2 to 3 weeks. As of now, I have received 105 blood transfusions and all of my care is given at UCLA Medical Center. My family holds fundraisers to raise money for research (so that we can find a cure!) and coordinates blood drives for me as well as the many other people in need of blood. My mommy and daddys dream is to see me dance at my own wedding. Please help their dream come true. Thank you!
