The John Paulson Jazz Quartet
The John Paulson Jazz Quartet has been performing throughout the Midwest for over 20 years. The group has been featured “live” on MPR’s Morning Show from the Sheldon Theatre in Red Wing and John Paulson’s music has often been highlighted on Leigh Kamman’s famous NPR radio show “The Jazz Image.” Dr. Paulson is professor of music at Saint Mary’s University where he has directed jazz studies and taught woodwinds for the last 25 years in addition to being Music Industry program director. He has published numerous articles and done educational CD’s for The Saxophone Journal and Jazz Player magazine. The group performing today includes John Paulson, saxophones and flute; Larry Price, piano; Erc Graham, bass; and Rich MacDonald, drums. Larry Price leads his own jazz groups in the area in addition to being adjunct music instructor at Winona State University, bassist Eric Graham holds a masters degree in music composition from The Johns Hopkins University and is currently a fulltime music professor at Century College in the Twin Cities and Dr. Rich MacDonald teaches percussion and is the director of jazz studies at Winona State University. This band is known for its hard hitting swing and repertoire of standards including well know bossa novas and ballads. Performances also include selected tunes from Dr. Paulson’s commercial CDs “Blues For Erin,” “Up Late,” “Tower Blues and “Mobley Street Blues,” by the Paulson/Price Jazz Quintet.
