THESE VERY EARLY DEMO's trace the evolution of some of my songs. I picked up the guitar in 1976 at age 18. In college I took guitar lessons from a seasoned pro and performed my originals at open stages. In 1980 I recorded my first demo tape that included "Snake River".
That fall I moved to Nashville and got a job waiting tables in Printer's Alley. I bought an old piano for my apartment and took lessons at nearby Vanderbilt College. While in Nashville I recorded 3 more songs including "Talking To My Baby" and "I'll Be There". (The latter got some publishing interest from Al Jolson Publishing).
In 1982 I moved to Denver. Two new songs, "Over You" and "Like She Do" were recorded, but shelved. I tried to forget about music, and bounced around several jobs. By 1987 I had fallen in with the crowd at Free Reelin' studios, where I cut 4 more songs including "Start At The Top". This is where I met Henry "Broz" Rowland. We worked together on a multitude of projects. "Radio Free Colorado" was conceived in his basement at Hi Kite Studios. An early version of "You've Come A Long Way" was also recorded there.
In 2007, 15 years later, after my career building the Colorado music industry infrastructure - the booking agency, the music fairs, the radio show, the one-stop and everything life throws at you in between - I went back and reviewed all my recordings. By now I had my own home studio and realized I had written over 35 songs. Some tracks I left alone, others I re-recorded.
These 6 rare and rough demo's give you an idea of how a song can evolve and the progression of a singer/songwriter. Click on "Lyrics" for more details on all the songs. You can hear the final mixes at Last FM & Imeem.com. They are all very different!
"Down By The Sea" CD's are available at Twist and Shout in Denver, The Finest in Fort Collins, through HapiSkratch.com and Max3.com. "My World CD's are temporarily out of stock.
