About me:
John Scott Lewinski writes screenplays, books, interactive games, sketch comedy & magazine articles out of Los Angeles, CA. He started out as a writer's assistant for the Black Entertainment Television comedy series, Comicview. He worked his way up to staff writer & wrote several sketches for the Comicview Players.
Lewinski appeared as a featured screenwriter at the 2003 Cinestory Script Session Awards with his script, Slabtown. His feature script, Darwin's Game, won entry into the 1997 Telluride Independent Film Festival. His next script, Forced Perspective, won the 1999 Award from the Wisconsin State Film Commission for “Best Screenplay Set in the State.” Finally, he was a semi-finalist for the Chesterfield Screenwriting Fellowship in 2001 & a semi-finalist for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences Nicholl Fellowship in 2004.
As a journalist, he writes for more than 30 national magazines, including AARP Magazine (the world largest circulation publication), Wired Magazine, Reader's Digest, Maxim, Geek Monthly, ABC News Online, Writer's Digest, Glenn Beck’s “Fusion” Magazine, Backstage West & Amazing Stories. He is also a contract daily blogger for
Wired.com & was the the magazine’s top online writer for summer 2008, bringing in up to 300,000 hits a day for the magazine’s Underwire blog.
Lewinski was honored to serve as a guest lecturer at the University of Notre Dame & Marquette University. A busy author, his next book, Good Stories Don’t Vote: How Hollywood’s Politics Destroy the Movies, is due in 2009. His latest book, Alone in a Room: Secrets of Professional Screenwriters, is now available at bookstores everywhere. In addition, his book, Developers Guide to Computer Game Design, is available from Wordware Publishing in Texas. And, his popular book, Screenwriter's Guide to Agents & Managers from Allworth Press, hit shelves in 2002. Finally, he wrote the short educational titles Screenwriter, TV Drama Writer, TV Sitcom Writer & Video Game Designer for Sparklesoup Publishing.
Putting his sketch comedy experience to work, Lewinski writes & directs short comedy films, including Idle Football: A History & the upcoming Seatbelt Angels. On the stage, Lewinski wrote & directed sketch comedy productions for the Sacred Fools Theater, Serial Killers, Acme Comedy Theater in Los Angeles & the 24-hour theatre event, Day Players. He wrote, directed, produced & edited the award-winning short audio play, Emergence.
Lewinski’s interactive writing includes contributions to the multi-million selling CD-ROM games LucasArts' Star Wars: Demolition, Broderbund's Riven, The Sequel to Myst, Command & Conquer II - Tiberian Sun, Command & Conquer - Red Alert & The Journeyman Project 3, Legacy of Time. His articles on game writing & the interactive industry trends appear in Animation Arena Magazine & Game Developer Magazine.
Lewinski also produced & edited teaser promos as part of a successful viral video campaign for the sci-fi/horror series, Alive.
He holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Screenwriting from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles & a B.A. in Journalism from Marquette University. He completed his study of English Literature at Exeter College, University of Oxford, UK.
