Born in Winnipeg right after the war, John has lived the life of an archetypal baby boomer. After growing up in Montreal, his destiny took many turns. He graduated in biochemistry, traveled a fair bit, became involved with the work of G. Gurdjieff, worked as a college administrator, and for 22 years operated a sheep farm in south-west Quebec. Through all of this, music remained present in his life. He sold the farm to pursue his dream to develop his music as a singer songwriter. At first, he moved to Northern California, but little did he know, his roots were deeper than he thought. John found his way back to Quebec. He now works in his studio Island Time Productions in St-Anicet.
His essential musical influences include Joni Mitchell, The Band, Neil Young, JJ Cale, Paul Simon, James Taylor, and many more. From these emerged a unique ‘out of the box’ organic musical style. His "petit band" is composed of Nicole Poissant (vocals), Adrien Girouard (bass) and Jesse Speed (guitar).
His lyrics explore the realm of our human condition. His rhythms will sway you from the inside out. His songs may question the world as it is, but … ‘’In the end, it’s all up to you !’’

John Speed vit dans la région depuis 30 ans et demeure à Saint-Anicet où il travaille sa musique. Il vous invite à un concert intime de ses chansons originales. Sa musique s'inspire de la grande époque musicale que fut les années '60. Ses influences sont donc vastes et comprennent, entre autres, les Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon, Neil Young, James Taylor et bien d'autres encore. Comme un troubadour des temps modernes, les paroles de ses chansons témoignent de la condition humaine et sont teintées d'harmonies qui sauront, et vous mouvoir, et vous émouvoir !
