JAHN TI aka John Taylor ,Was born in Clarksville TN.but soon after moved to Houston Tx. where he was raised by his mother, who was single and struggled to provide.However she was an inspirational force and helped him to learn how to overcome obstacles that life will throw at you.
At a young age he and everyone around him learned that he was a natural born entertainer,he started singing in a church choir where he first began to understand what his gifts and talents from the Almighty were.
Having had no father; John was starved for true guidance, and found it in the words from various reggae recording artists such as Bob Marley ,Peter Tosh, etc.and through the teachings of his majesty,this is what began to build up his character.Houston had a large carribean community,which exposed Jahn TI to live reggae music who passed through. Acts such as Burning Spear, Culture ,Wailing Souls etc,these are some of the first artist who helped to shape and mold Jahn TI.,and show him the Rastafarian way of life. In his early 20's John found himself in a 3 part harmony trio named BUFFALO SOLDIER. In 1993 they released VISION OF LOVE;which was recorded in Kingston JA. at the MIXING LAB with the ROOTS RADICS backing. He wrote three songs off the album titled (War is not the answer),(In the Ghetto),and (Road of Life).During this time they performed at different Reggae festivals with large audiences where he shined through with his performance,catching attention from local promoters that lead him to even bigger shows,and huge reviews in the press.
He went through some tough years of struggles and sufferation and did his stint of two years in prison but many of times found himself trying to focus on solutions, John became head of the church choir while there and he even sang an acapella version of Bob Marley's Redemtion song that brought the warden to shed a tear.After having had a spiritual awakening and his release John became a semi-pro cyclist which involved him in traveling to compete across the U.S.,which resulted in high rankings with the U.S.C.F.(United States Cycling Federation).
Jahn TI has recently been working with different engineers,producers,and musicians including Soljie Cegrica Hamilton,Tanagari ,Andrew,and Joshua Manning. He is currently featuring on Roots Revealers new CD titled Sweet Jamaica on Freedom included on the playlist.
Watch out for his new song Herb Fi Mi Wine featuring musicians Flabba Holt, Style Scott,Lloyd Obeah,Kahn Mitchum Chin,Dean Frazier,Nambo Ronald Robinson,and Joshua Manning.
He is also in the process of working with a new very talented upcoming hip hop , R&B artist in America, J. Beale ;to complete his upcoming solo debut project coming early 2010.
