PRESS:

Beneath Portland, Ore.'s nationally-recognized layer of musical talent lies a bedrock of more than one thousand working bands throughout the metropolitan area. Among these up-and-coming acts, the country-rock quintet Weinland stands out as one of the most promising. The band’s third LP, Breaks in the Sun (out in May via Badman Records) is eleven tracks of what the band does best: intelligently-crafted pop with all the fringe and loose strands left hanging, emotionally-resonant folk and country with enough edges to draw blood but with chops and melody to spare. When Paste recently met up with frontman Adam Shearer (he of the Neil Young pipes and Hank Williams , Sr. sensibilities) for dinner and drinks, he told the occasionally harrowing but always compelling story of a band fighting some serious, Steinbeck-like headwinds to get its feet planted firmly beneath it. -- PASTE MAGAZINE

"True, gripping melodies—ones that stand up to repeated listening. - Entertainment Weekly

"…Breaks In The Sun could get you from L.A. to Vegas, along with some Neko Case and Uncle Tupelo thrown in for good measure. In Addition to the reluctantly melancholy (the lovely, Mark Kozelek-ish ‘Sunken Eyes’) and the lovestruck and deflated (the breathtaking ‘I Feel Wasted’), Breaks offers up airy and sparkling tracks that let in the light (‘People Like You’ and ‘It’s Already True’). Comparatively upbeat tunes – like ‘Autumn Blood,’ where organ, guitar, and strings work up an actual froth – recharge your aural senses just when you feel the wind-down. You can almost hear Neil Young’s take on ‘I’m Sure It Helps,’ which would likely be more resignation-filled than Shearer’s faintly hopeful version. A highly rewarding, skillfully balanced collection of songs.” - iTunes

"Puts forth fragile, folky songs that at times evoke elements of Neil Young. (Not all evokers of Neil Young are worth spending time with, but this act is.)" - USA TODAY

"Shearer sings in metaphor and poetry." - Seattle Weekly

"My early contender for local album of the year, "La Lamentor' is a disc to cherish" - The Oregonian

"Damn is it beautiful" - Willamette Week

"The members of Weinland use their instruments like vanishing resources: cautiously. The Portland five-piece's frontman, Adam Shearer, channels Elliot Smith's frail whisper — and like Smith's, his voice can stand steadfastly alone over a single guitar or piano note. Sometimes, however, the band gorges ..o, upright bass, banjo, and organ, with Shearer's voice fading in and out as simply another instrument in the pack. Weinland picks from folk, rock, and everything in between, but at its core, the group creates classic Americana, like Neil Young's quieter moments, or more recently, M. Ward." - SF Guardian

"La Lamentor is one of those albums that is beautifully arranged and produced, leaving the songs to sidle up next to the listener like long lost friends." - Americana UK

"Five beardos who create some of the finest brooding folk rock in [Portland]" - Harp Magazine

"An amazing & intimate collection of hauntingly beautiful folk lullabies—the kind that are so good they give you goose bumps." - The Portland Mercury

   About WEINLAND

A quick note to bands that contact us on myspace:

You are fantastic.. please understand that its not likely that we'll get your message.. our main myspace purpose is to keep up with fans.. there is just too much spam on here for business. We peruse our myspace page for messages from fans and make a best effort to respond to all of them, because we love them more than anyone, but conduct our bid-nass through other channels. We still want to know you, but please reach us through our website/email addresses, etc if you want to ask about shows and what not.. sorry for being "difficult." ...the only reason we mention this is so we don't miss you in the shuffle.

We still love you,

iTunes Review

Portland, Oregon's Adam Shearer and WEINLAND make music that is for the most part delicate and beautiful, and at moments achingly sad. Their 2008 debut, La Lamentor, announced a band clearly inspired by the likes of Elliott Smith and Low, but on their second album, they turn the pace up a notch. And that's a good thing: La Lamentor is too sleepy to make good road-trip music, but Breaks In The Sun could get you from L.A. to Vegas, along with some Neko Case and Uncle Tupelo thrown in for good measure. In addition to the reluctantly melancholy (the lovely, Mark Kozelek-ish "Sunken Eyes") and the lovestruck and deflated (the breathtaking "I Feel Wasted"), Breaks offers up airy and sparkling tracks that let in the light ("People Like You" and "It's Already True"). Comparatively upbeat tunes - like "Autumn Blood," where organ, guitar, and strings work up an actual froth - recharge your aural senses just when you feel the wind-down. You can almost hear Neil Young's take on "I'm Sure It Helps," which would likely be more resignation-filled than Shearer's faintly hopeful version. A highly rewarding, skillfully balanced collection of songs

Yes that's right.  Weinland's front man, Adam Shearer, did an 8 Question interview with us here at THWBRO.  We talked about the band, the process, the future and a lot of really other weird things.
