Right, that's a bit vague, isn't it? I suppose what I mean by that is that we are influenced by more than we are even aware of. I can name some music which I like, but it's even possible I've been influenced by music I don't like!
Music I heard as a child:
My mom's (J. Lalah Simcoe a.k.a. Judy Fine of the 1960's band, The Womenfolk), The Womenfolk, The Beatles, Elton John, The Band, Heart, Led Zeppelin, Joni Mitchell, Cream, Judy Collins, Jethro Tull, James Taylor, Frank Zappa, Stevie Wonder, Captain Beefheart, CSNY, Cat Stevens, Nick Drake, John Renbourne, Eric Satie, John MacLaughlin, Bach, Mozart, Ravi Shankar...
you name it, I loved it all. Still do.
Sounds Like
Jeff Buckley, Aimee Mann, Ben Harper, Joni Mitchell
"I fell in love with Wood's voice. Actually, I fell in love with what she can do with it, and she can do plenty."
- Frank Gutch Jr., FAME
"One of the best female vocalists in the region." -C-ville Weekly
"Joia Wood has one of those miraculous voices which can bowl you over even at its most delicate whisper, and lull you even at its stormiest torrent. A true siren who will capture you with the effortlessness with which her voice can express every facet of the human heart." -Danny Schmidt
Remember the song we sang and recorded in the living room last time you came to visit? Where is that song?! I love it so much, it should be recorded...it's soooo good!! Love you!! Miss you!! xoxoxo
