About Vladislav Delay & Food 12 Nov

The Hut

Welcome to the Hut; a weekly velvety soft sonic celebration brought to you by Arctic Circle Radio. The Hut is a refuge, a cocoon of the finest in new music, spinning a warm glow from the outer-reaches of the snowy wastelands. Presented and produced by Ben Eshmade (with additional sounds and magic from Sone Institute), the Hut is a one-hour transmission from an intensely beautiful musical world.

The Circle

Brought to you by Arctic Circle Radio, the Circle is a new weekly podcast that takes you on a one-hour journey based on the most simple and significant of shapes. Every Circle is unique; formed from a guest curator’s musical landscape and they all share the same revolutionary quality: each one ends at the point where it began.

Efterklang & Britten Sinfonia 28 October @ Barbican with Jaga Jazzist

A rare opportunity to see one of the most ambitious and uplifting collaborations of recent years - a performance of Efterklang's 2007 album Parades scored for band and orchestra. The Danish collective's acclaimed music is both soaringly melodic and engagingly intimate; in this setting, it becomes a breathtaking panorama of sound. With support from Norway's musical phenomenon Jaga Jazzist.

'Like a secret musical language born of ice winds and sequestered myth' Mojo

Vladislav Delay featuring Lucio Capece + Food with Eyebrow @ Union Chapel November 12

Vladislav Delay - the Finnish artist (electronics/percussion) will be joined by Argentinian Lucio Capece (bass saxophone/clarinet) who features on Delay's new album, and first on Leaf, Tummaa (released Sept 7).

Food is now in its 11th year and is an enduring partnership between English Saxophonist Iain Ballamy and Norwegian Percussionist and electronica sensation Thomas Stronen. By combining acoustic elements including bells, blocks, gongs and lyrical saxophone, their music is enhanced and tempered with live sampling and drums creating moods which range from minimalist to very turbulent. Food have released 5 albums, most recently “Molecular Gastronomy” for the Norwegian label Rune Grammofon.

The Notwist & Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra with The Sleeping Years

The combination of a 20-piece orchestra with a 5-piece band from Bavaria, holds a lot more promise than the typical “Rock meets Classical” set up. Instead, old and new Notwist songs are elaborated upon to form extremely complex and intelligent orchestral arrangements that are sometimes moody and often happily insane but live up to high expectations. The Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra make music in their very own galaxy – a similar one to which Raymond Scott, Sun Ra or Bach and Beethoven must have once passed by. These evenings celebrate a new interpretation and elaboration of the Notwistian songbook, which due to logistical reasons can only take place on a few very special occasions.

Hurrah! What a good Christmas EP! I would think only a fool would not get a copy for friends and family for a Christmas present, and most likely a couple of tickets for the live performance to go with it!
