Željko Joksimović was born on April 20th 1972 in Belgrade. The years of growing up and education bonded him with Valjevo, a place from where he went to test himself in the world of music, and where he always returned as a winner. The fact that that he was only twelve years old when he won “First harmonica of Europe” award(a prestigious music festival in Paris) speaks in favor of this remarkable artist's beginnigs. Željko's career as a professional musician started at the age of five, and it became more and more prosperous as the years passed. In the midd – nineties (1993, 1996, 1997) he had many accomplishments on the “Belgrade spring” festival as a composer. His composition “Tambourines toll” won the first prize at the “Golden tambourine” 2000 year festival in Novi Sad. His success with his composition "The song of sirens" (interpretation award)at the “Song of Mediterranean” festival in Budva 1998, gave him the possibility of participating on two prestigious international festivals in Belarus. Remarkably that 1999 year he won in Mahilyow and Vitsyebsk both of the "Grand Prix" awards. At the close of the century (nineties) he spent composing music for theater plays, such as: “Mandragola”, “Ljubinko and Desanka”, “The slave of love”, “On foot”, “I don’t have money, I won’t pay” and many others. The turning point of his work as a pop - artist/performer was releasing his first album (for “City records production”) in 2000.
Results of his work were more than obvious. His first album was proclaimed best-selling album in “City records production” that year. In years to follow Željko will remain in the very top of Serbian pop music. Numerous awards following his first album proved his quality and persistence, and abilities to stay in the game. The turning point in his career is considered to be Željko’ s winning the national contest for Serbia and Montenegro’s representing Serbia at the “Eurosong 2004” championship with his song “Lane moje” (Goodbye). After very long time, Serbia and Montenegro once again had their representative on this prestigious European contest. Winning second place at the “Eurosong” contest in Istanbul and THE MARCEL BEZENCON Press award (best composer award) allowed him to climb to the top of the European music scene. This success changed the course of his career. This turning point gave a special tone to his musical opus and the songs he made after 2004.
In the years to follow he had notable achievements as a composer. Already next year he reappeared on “Beovision” and the national contest for Serbia and Montenegro’s representative, with a composition “A morning” (“Jutro”), sung by Jelena Tomašević.
Željko’ s co-operation and duet with the Austrian singer Tamee Harrison “I live my life for you” made a great success throughout Europe. “Warner” included this composition in a compilation, along with songs of Robbie Williams, ABBA etc. In December 2005 his lates released album became yet another fantastic success in his career and was sold in more than 800 000 copies. This album represented Zeljko's maturity as both an artist, performer as well as an arranger. In that period Željko tried himself as a film music composer. In cooperation with “Cobra production” he composed music for the movie “Ivko’ s slava” (“Ivkova slava”).His great accomplishment on “Eurosong” 2004 was repeated in Athens 2006, when his musical piece “LEJLA” , written for Bosnia and Herzegovina’ s representative – “HARI MATA HARI” band, won not only third place at the contest, but also won the prestigious best composer award (COMPOSERAWARD 2006). Once again Željko proved to the world that he knows what it takes to be among the best.
