   About Jo Lepine
I live in the Cathederal City of Rochester in Kent with my trombone playing husband and a tortoiseshell cat named Phoebe. I sing mostly english and scots ballads with excursions into french-canadian and early music terratories. I have performed with the Grand Union Orchestra as guest vocalist on their Dr Carnival tour. I have been part of The Owl Service for almost 2 years now and love it! Our debut album 'A Garland of Song' was released on Southern Records in 2008 and the next is underway. I'm planning an album of my own later this year........ More on The Owl Service at http://www.midwich-cuckoos.co.uk

The welcome return to Orange Street of  THE KIM THOMPSETT BAND.
Kim - guitar, vocals, flute, recorder, zither, harp, bowed psaltery
Dave Kent - guitar, keyboards
Naomy Browton - cello, vocals
Andy Renshaw - Percussion, kalimba
Kims debut CD Songs From the Uglee Meadow....  "As well as singing, multi-instrumentalist Kim plays guitar, flute, zither, recorder and percussion.  The result is an intimate and intensely personal recording, rich in pastoral imagery and rooted in the English landscape.....It draws on Celtic, medieval and English folk, but the album is not overwhelmed by its influences, retaining its own shape and identity.  The tone is ruminative, reflective and at times celebratory, whether a poignant love song crafted from an epitaph or taking in the beauty of leaf and stream.  For more reference points, think Sandy Denny’s Who Knows Where the Time Goes?....
Philip G Martin guests on hurdy-gurdy and bagpipes ( WILL SUMMERS from CIRCULUS also appears ) , while Sarah Tadros weaves cobweb patterns on violin. A very mellow recording, not so much shoe-gaze as tree-gaze, and a finely crafted piece of English whimsy "

SHARRON KRAUS
With support from Peter Delaney and C Joynes
Live at Orange Street Music Club,
Canterbury
Weds October the 21st 8.00pm
£5 in advance/£6 on door

“Sharron Kraus is a dark-folk gem. Listening to her high, clear voice cut through melodies woven from acoustic guitar, banjo and hurdy-gurdy, you may struggle to remember which late-'60s traditionalists beat her to the material. Here's one folklore expert whose originals feel both authentic and alive….Exquisite second album by this wonderful singer. She conjures up visions of Karen Dalton, Shirley Collins, Judy Dyble and even early Joni. Live she was fantastic too. ..this moves from traditional folk (in a Shirley Collins, Anne Briggs style) to her own songs and enchants all the way. An immaculate album from a major new singer.”

Peter Delaney lives in Limerick, Ireland. He comes from a folk music background and plays his own unique style, drawing on early Hawaiian folk songs and Alan Lomax field recordings as well as more contemporary musicians such as Joanna Newsom and Josephine Foster. Peter released his debut EP/Mini Album "Duck Egg Blue" in April 2007 to much acclaim.

Peter has played throughout the UK, Ireland and Norway and has shared the bill with A Hawk and a Hacksaw, Alasdair Roberts, Jozef van Wissem, Juana Molina and The Swell Season.

Circulus in woods

‘British band Circulus have almost single handedly reinvented English Psychedelic Folk Rock for the 21st Century…..their sound is totally unique coming across like a mixture of medieval English Folk, Fairport Convention and Ozric Tentacles!
‘This band just leave you wanting more, playing a wonderful mix of psychedelicised folk whilst hankering to a more pastoral time, but always feel uncomfortably bang up to date. The songs are a fantastic mix of heady summer jigs & ballads, sung with a crystal clear Englishness that can make you come over all unnecessary. This is prog/folk spot on in every way, and probably the only band around who use a Crumhorn, Cittern & Rausch pfiffer????......the audience is sent home happy. Seeking medieval inspiration is not in itself new – Gryphon and Amazing Blondel spring to mind – but Circulus marry this with vintage 70’s space-rock a la Hawkwind/Gong’.
Power to the Pixies!

Their debut album ‘Lofoten Calling’ is being released by Midwich Records, and is original music based around the people, landscape, folklore and history of the Lofoten Islands, - an area above the Arctic Circle in Norway. The music is song based, and influenced by traditional British Isles and Norwegian folk music. Released on 30th November 2008, Songs from the Uglee Meadow features ten original songs inspired by nature and tales of myth and legend. Having already won acclaim from various quarters including Michael Tyack of Circulus and Marianne Segal, folk legend of the 1970's, and blending medieval, celtic, folk and contemporary influences, Songs from the Uglee Meadow should appeal to all lovers of the acoustic folk style.
"I am very impressed. Beautiful voice and really nice arrangements. I have strong connections with the folk world and this is one of the best things I have heard recently." Andy Hemsley, Journalist
The album "Songs from the Uglee Meadow" is inspired by a serene and beautiful place in East Sussex called the Uglee Meadow. With the involvement of musicians such as Will Summers from Circulus on crumhorns, recorders and other blowy things and Philip Martin (alias Drohne) on hurdy gurdy and pipes. Songs inspired by quiet woods, rushing streams, misty meadows, lonely moors and dancing fires imbued with an air of timelessness….
