The label "JoMoX" existed since 1995 already.
Later in 1997 the Jomox GmbH was founded in Berlin.
The former letters J*M*X were the initials of Jürgen Michaelis X-Tended as he was part of the working group X-Tended. The "*" looked like "o" and so the name JoMoX was born.
JMs major work areas were repairs, modifications and midi-interfaces for old analog synthesizers and drum machines from the 1970's and early 80's.
In 1996, he build the XBase09 because he took the experience of TR-909 modifications together and created a new drum machine. Although it was meant to be kind of a clone, he suddenly knew it was something entirely new because everything was storeable, controllable and far beyond the original circuitries.
The first time one ever heard the melodically sequenced kick drum he was blown away. This was the birth of the Jomox Musical Equipment company.
Since then, many other products followed: SunSyn, AiRBase99, XBase09 TokTok, XBase09 Dr. Walker, MBase01, JaZBase03, Resonator Neuronium, M-Resonator, XBASE 999, XBASE888, T-Resonator...to be continued.
The goal of JMs work and of Jomox was always to combine the power of analog sound and circuitries with the advantage of modern digital or networked technologies to achieve an optimimum in sound and individuality. This is certainly a part of the magic that the Jomox sound carries into the world.
