Hi everyone! My name is Jonathan S. Samilin, I was born in the Philippines and raised in American Samoa. I am now 22 years old and I got my Bachelor's degree in nursing at Far Eastern University - Dr. Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation, School of Nursing here in the Philippines. I am pretty shy and quiet at first but once you get to know me and I get to know you then everything is cool.     Hey Jon!
    Well clinicals almost sound alike but I think it's more intense for you guys than it is for us. Everything you've mentioned sounds like what we've been through except the hospitals since we only have 1 on island and the extent of our experience is not much. We have 'packets' to complete every week of clinicals which mostly consists of two to three days. Our packets started from a total of eleven pages to fifteen this semester. Our first and second semester was hectic because we had to finish this packet within two nights and some of us would go without sleep. We were expected to get information about our patients which filled up the first two pages. Then two pathophysiologies from the existing diagnoses which for most of the clients who were assigned to us, there were several. And of course the NCP's which we're familiar with and were expected to supply three. Two of which are biophysical problems and one psychosocial (Knowledge Deficit most likely). There was a also a whole page for Lab values which we were supposed to indicate whether they were high or low, also state the rationale for testing, interventions being done or should be done, and how often they are checked. Medications are another big part of our packets. We have to write them out on index cards and there is a format our instructor supplies for us to follow. In addition we also have to fill out a schedule of what to do during the whole time of care from 8 in the morning to 4 in the afternoon which is the normal clinical hours. We don't have that many instructors and the instructors we do get, all work at the hospital and teach us for only a short time.
    Our lectures are done by several instructors again one of them being a very elderly woman. She has been teaching for a long time and we sometimes get very frustrated because she cannot answer our questions most of the time when our primary instructor is absent.     Hi Jon!

    Well it's surprising that we chose a common profession. I'm doing the LPN program here in American Samoa and our licensure exam is in August. I've also applied for the RN class here too. Not a Bachelor's again but its sumthin isn't it. Wow! Many props and congrats on all the hard work. For 4 years too. How bout that? 

    Some of the candidates of the RN class I am hopefully joining are Filipinos too. 2 guys actually. Anyways in order for me to enter and continu with the next RN class, I have to pass the PN (Practical Nursing) licensure exam in August which isn't too far away.

    But I hope we can still keep in touch! How're clinicals and lectures like for you guys? Is there a summer session going on at the moment? For us there is and we can't wait for it to finish. We were told by previous classes that summer was going to be 'laid back'. So far nothing has been 'laid back' about summer as far as we all are concerned. :)... Anyhow... Write when you can as I will do the same and of course I will keep you in my prayers. Take care and may God bless!!!
