   About JUANBURGUESA
Born under a cusp sign, Jonathan Berger's been writing short attention span poetry for well over a week, and fronting the funk-rock spoken word vehicle JUANBURGUESA since right before the Towers fell. His - for wont of a better word - poetry evokes memories of poets who went on to front bands, like Patti Smith, Leonard Cohen, Henry Rollins, and Muhammad Ali. The band, founded by drummer Sanjay Kaul and Aashish Pathak (of Lunchin' and Pathak respectively) on drums, currently features the driving duo behind the Heller Theory (Andrew and Brian Heller) on guitar and bass respectively. They're good. But don't tell them that; they might get all uppity and ask for a raise. Playing in East Village locales (and one time in Philadelphia), JUANBURGUESA does things with a stage like you wouldn't believe - or didn't, before you saw the show. Go see the show.

Just wanted to update you:

Sundown Lounge is a laid back (and often explicit, you bet your ass...) weekly podzine of music, spoken word, progressive politics, weird science, and occasional vignettes from the west coast open mic scene, etc. Physically, I'm in rapidly gentrifying downtown Los Angeles, but metaphysically, my toes are in the sand and the sun is ablaze with deep hues, and a few poets and musicians and scientists have dropped by my beach house to hang out and jam, as the surf whispers nearby...The Open Mic Stage accepts spoken word and music files for play.
: Hear "A True Liberator" on Friday's Archived Podcast:

Other news and goings on: 10K is accpeting submissions from poets to feature in our BLOG. If this is of interest to you, please send your poem in as a comment, in the form, with title, author, etc. We will do the rest.

Pardon the interruption, but you see, THIS IS A HIJACKING of your MySpace. Cooperate and no one gets hurt!
As you SHOULD know, I’ve planned an entire evening at The Sidewalk Café this Saturday evening. That’s May 3, 2008 for those of you who are not in possession of a calendar. Its going to be an incredible evening and I know you’re just going to love it and never forgive yourself should you miss what is surely to be “THE EVENT” of the spring season, Antifolk speaking.
Just who, you ask with hope and wonder filling your heart, did I book for this most special evening? Well, hold onto your hats doll, cause I pulled out all the stops for this one! We got:
JOHN HOUX kicking off the show at 8:00pm;
SOFT BLACK at 9:00pm;
LENNY MOLOTOV at 10:00pm;
DAN COSTELLO at 11:00pm
RAV SHMUEL at midnight.
I’ll be MCing the entire evening and who knows what that means, but it should be interesting!
And its close enough to my birthday, so now you have yet another reason to show up! Just don’t forget to bring the cake and cash gifts are always welcome! Okay, forget the cake and cash, come anyway and lets all have a really great time!
I’ll see you there!
Fredo, ummm.. JEANNIE!!
Okay, I’m covered *this hijacker now silently slings back into cyberspace*

Hi JUANBURGUESA, good to be friends.

Whether you believe that the sky has been invaded by umpalumpas, or that there is a more rational explanation for the appearance of snow, I hope you enjoy the poetry and opera in "FLAKE'S THEME".

Hey, I'll probably be in town the week of the 17th. I'd better see you!

PS Don't spread it around too much, I don't want mass rioting in the streets of the east village when the hipsters find out I'm there... :-)

a comment about JUANBURGUESA: is what i crave when I wake up in the morning drunk and drive to Brooklyn in a delapidated rusty van with no heat and no radio listening to N.P.R. in mono through a set of headphones in my cell phone trying not to vomit on the floor as I make way reluctantly through the city to pick up my uncooprerative mexican counterparts who await my arival in the local Tienda ordering two eggs with sausage lettuce tomato on un roll. Mmmm, a Juanburguesa, that sounds real nice. Ill take mine with salsa verde, a llevar!
